Are you sure it's not just the foremilk you're seeing? The first few minutes of milk flow is foremilk - it is thinner, more liquidy, and quenches the baby's thirst, before getting to the thicker, fattier, hindmilk that looks like "whole" milk. If your baby is gaining weight, then your milk is fine. If your baby is not gaining weight, check with a nutritionist or a lactation consultant about how to change your diet to improve your milk.

She's putting on weight but my main concern is that she drinks and drinks and drinks and it dosen't seem to fill her up until she's been there a very long time and i have 2 other children and my husband goes back to work in a little ova 2 days, so i'm in a pickle, plus when i try to express wether it's a electric or manual pump i only get about 10mls even if i'm full so i don't know weather to give up or not!

how old is she? If she's only a few weeks old, she's still fairly inefficient at nursing, and she's got a tiny tummy - fast to fill up, fast to digest. It'll get easier as she gets older. Before giving up on pumping/b___stfeeding altogether, try a different pump. Not all pumps work for every woman. I use an Avent Isis handheld, which works for me, but I only need to pump an occasional bottle since I'm a stay-at-home mom with only 1 kid. Can you pump one side while she nurses the other? Or, do you have a friend/neighbor/relative who's willing/able to help with your 2 other children?

hi, no i had to stop anyway cause she turned out to be lactose intolerant like my other girls, so now i'm drying up my milk, thanks for ur advice anyway, but i guess i have to do what's best for her and that's not b___st feeding.

That's such a bummer. At least she's gotten b___st milk so far...some is better than none; and you're right, you do have to do what's best for your baby.

hey sheree! my baby is also lactose intolerant and i managed to brestfeed. i changed to soy milk myself and try to avoid cheese as much as i can but i put her on soy formula to supplement her. the pump that jamie said also works wonderful for me and i can pump about 3 or 4 ounces at a time. ask your doc about that, and see what they say. good luck!
