There are specific exemptions for each state here in the US. Some states are horrible and only have medical exemptions. These exemptions apply to both daycare as well as public schools. My sister has 2 children, the 12 year old had a few shots very early on but they were discontinued and the 8 year old has never had a shot. They both attend public schools. Her pedi has marked off in their charts the religious exemption. When she enrolls them each year, she just has the doctor sign off on the form that would normally have the immunizations filled out. She has never had a problem.
I just don't understand how the government can force medications upon people. Don't we have the right to determine what is injected into our and our childrens bodies?

Colleen, thank you for the vaccine info- very helpful! And, I do think that the govt should only recommend- and there should be EDU offered- such as genetic counseling (I had that when I was PG). I do believe $$ is the driver in medical care.
Jusdee, you lo is so precious! He's such a cutie! What is his name? And, you go mommy!
The Dr. Karp/ Happiest baby/ toddler books- the baby book talks about creating a 4th trimester and gets into techniques on how to calm your baby and help them sleep by using the 5 s's- swaddeling, shhhh-ing, side position, swinging, sucking. They also talk a lot about colicky babies. Laina didn't really enjoy being swaddled too much after a couple of weeks, (it made her too hot) but that was a cue on trying to make her body more still if she was super upset (like controlling flailing arms while crying).
Off subject. Sigh. After months of procrastinating on getting our newer dog (a female stray that we took in end of summer) spayed- I took her yesterday morning to the spay & neuter clinic- Only to get a phone call late afternoon. It happens that poor Buster had already been spayed. The doctors opened her up for surgery- couldn't find her ovaries or uterus- did even more cutting to look for them (she's pretty big). Didn't find them and established that she had already been spayed. I feel terrible for the poor dog! I thought that she had been in heat once since we've had her and they said it was prob a UTI. ; ( She has a 7 inch incision cut down her belly, stapled shut. That makes me feel like a terrible "dog mother".

hey girls, I haven't been on in a bit... It's been quite wild around here. My Lo has been a little fussy due to constipation. We added rice back into his diet...Well now he can't poop. We are on a little prune juice. Only problem is he hates it. So I give it to him in his formula!!! GROSS!!! I can't wait till he eats food. It's so nice out here today. (NJ) It's like 70 and sunny. I have My lo in a swing by the door letting a little air in. He went out cold in 2 minutes flat!!!
ANyway.. Does any one use facebook?? I post a lot of Michael's pictures on there.. just another place to chat!!!! (when I am up in the middle of the night!!!
My lo got sick after the oral vaccine.. That is rotavirus. But Apparaently its a lot worse to get the virus then it is to have the vaccine. My friend's baby was hospitalized ... As far as the others...we went the dr route. I am hoping that we made the right decision...

Hi girls. How is everyone doing? I have facebook too, and I have a bunch of hotos of litle Brady on there. And, I just added you Amanda. Anyone else have facebook? The profile pics on here are adorable. I just figured out how to upload my little guy on here...so now he's on here too.
As for vaccines, thanks for the info Colleen. I just did all of the ones that were recommended. I hope I made the right decision too. I read up on things somewhat, but you never really know... Does anyone here watch Private Practice? There was a whole episode that surrounded that vaccine controversy...it was on the side of the gov't (of course). But, it highlighted some of the issues.
micsimms - you are not a bad puppy parent. How would you have known that she'd already been spayed? When my pups were spayed, they had pretty long incisions too. But, they healed really quick. Maybe you can give her some pain meds in the meantime? Did you get anything from your vet? One of my pups had a harder time, so that's what we did, and it seemed to help her.
Tara - I hope you lo's constipation gets better. That does sound gross - formula and prune juice...yuck! But, if they drink it...go with it!
Brady is now on zantac for the time being. It seems to really be working. He hasn't had any of the scary choking episodes, and he isn't spitting up close to as much. I hope he doesn't have to be on the meds too long, but for now, this is working.
jusdee - I ALWAYS pick up Brady when he starts to cry. I don't have the heart to let him cry at all. So, I totally understand how you feel.
Oh yeah, my biggest concern right now is that I start work next week. Any suggestions on how to feel better about it? I'm getting really nervous and anxious about leaving him with a sitter. I just don't want to leave him at all. Maybe we made the worng decision on a place to send him...it's just a home day care (not licensed with the state). She's an older woman (who has help part-time by another woman) who has been watching kids for over 20 years. And, 2 co-wrokers send their kids there and like her a lot - they both told me how caring and loving she is with the kids. But, now I'm paranoid that because she not licensed and not certified in CPR, something bad could happen to my lo. I feel like we should send him to a real daycare center...but the wait list are forever long, so it's too late at this point... I don't know, maybe I'm just being paranoid. I'm sure it'll be fine...right? Oh, and I don't think I'm going to be able to keep up with pumping enough to feed him. when I pump, I get like an ounce. I relaly want to keep b___stfeeding him though...I hate that I HAVE to work...ugg.
Oh, and the weather here was nice...the temp dropped a little today. I'm relaly looking forward to summer!!

Hey girls- well my dsl is down again at home so I'm on at work.
Micsmms- Don't blame yourself, it's hard with rescues, you don't know wnaything about them. The clinis did not look for a scar or do any testing? I would think they would be able to tell at least by hormonal testing. Try not to beat yourself up.
Tara- that does sound gross! They didn't want to prescribe anything? Miralax is what they gave my first lo. Of course it's better to do it through diet changes but it's hard when they are too young for fruits and veggies. The glycerine suppositories work well too.
austynsmommy- Are you on anything for your ppd? I'm
sorry you're feeling so poorly. Vitamin D is really supposed to help. I have GAD which is not as bad, but I feel for ya. I do not have Facebook but maybe I'll look into it. I have to download some pics of my lo's but since my dsl is down it's pointless at the moment.
jusdee- stop in and tell us about yourself- where are you from, etc.
Kimmer- who the hell knows what's right about the vaccines. We all just have to do whatever we think is best and just hope our lo's are ok. I almost wish I didn't so all that research and could just go ahead and get them all and not worry, it would be much easier. But with the SIDS link and all...
I wish I knew how to make it easier to return to work. It was really rough for me. The first month I was still getting up to feed Luke. My only suggestion is use formula at night which holds them longer but I think you are doing that already. Try to keep pumping if you can any bit he gets is helpful and don't beat yourself up about it if you can't keep up.
I had to just keep reminding myself that I am not the only one that has to go back to work and leave my lo and that as far as getting up during the night..."this too shall pa__s" not much help. I also tried to prepare everything the night before (still do, pick out everyone's clothes, clean, make lunches, etc.) and most importantly- DRINK TONS OF COFFEE!!! lol. As far as your daycare, referrals mean alot. If you're co-workers are happy that's a good sign. I would definately make sure that she and her helpers are CPR and First Aid certified and I would meet with her prior to going to work and go over all the SIDS rules. My lo's stay with my mom but I made her go to CPR and First Aid with me. She is a little cheaper than a Daycare center and I know how much she loves them. I just hate having to work too but there is no way we could afford for me to be a SAHM. I told dh I should have married rich, lil.

Colleen - thanks for all of your advice. Brady is almost 12 weeks old. He's still small though, so I don't know if that is part of the sleeping issue. I give him a bottle of formula at 8:30ish and then he falls asleep til about 1:00. I've tried the dream feed, but he doesn't sleep any longer. I may try gving him formula at 1:00 when he wakes to see if he'll at least do another long stretch. But, like I said, I like bf'ing. As it is now, he wakes at 1:00, then about 2:30-3, then 4:30-5...and so on...
I started crying after reading your post about missing Luke rolling over. I don't want to miss anything with Brayden! It does totally suck that we have to miss these things... I've been pretty fine until now emotionaly, and now I feel very overwhelmed and anxious about work. And, it doesn't help that I'm not a huge fan of my job.
As for teh babysitter, she's not certified and won't go. We talked to her last night on the phone about it. She just said that she's been watching kids for 20+ years and everything has been fine. I don't know why I didn't really think about it earlier, but like I said, it's too late now to go somewhere else (at least right away). And, I know my co-worlers do like her and trust her with their kids. And, she is really nice (and so is the helper). Ahhhhhhh!!! It's more that I want to be the person with him than anything else... I'll deal though, I have to. I'm just worried about the next few weeks. BUt, I know that it'll be ok and this will pa__s...thanks!
jusdee - wow are you young! I'm sure you hear that a lot. But, I just feel old comparatively...I'm 31, and Brady is my first. I'm jealous you can take our lo to work. My job is not really conducive to that...oh well.
OK...off for now...

Hi girls, TGIF!!!
jusdee- you are so lucky to spend the day with your lo, sounds like a great job.
kimmer- Don't feel old, I'm alot older than you! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you but it just really sucks missing the important stuff. I also missed his first laugh which was heartbreaking.
As far as the babysitter, do her a__sistants have CPR certification? I know you can't change babysitters now but you may want to consider it in the future if you can.
I also think being small is the reason he still feeds at night. Luke was 4 lbs 6 oz and he started sleeping through around 4 months old. You probably have about a month more of night feedings to go. Even if he cuts out one if the feedings you can get some sleep. I would definately try the formula at the 1 am feed, maybe he will go til 5 am. What do you do for work?
How is everyone else?
Jess- I hope you are ok, we haven't heard from you in awhile.
Well I bought the BebeSafe mattress cover for my lo (part of my SIDS obsession) what do you guys think about it? I think I will put Luke in his crib with the AngelCare monitor and mattress cover when it comes. Big step for me. My DD slept in our roon til 12 months. I know, I'm a neurotic nut-job.
Time to get back to work. My dsl is down (guy is supposed to come tomorrow) so I may not be back on til Monday. Have a good weekend, Colleen

Hi girls! So, this is the week I've been dreading...going back to work...yuck! Colleen - no, no one is certified. We are looking at changing asap. We've been calling around to day cares and to other home providers. The soonest openning we've found (at a place we really like) is the end of May. So, the longest he should have to go to this babysitter is two months. I guess I can live with that...I have to. But, we're doing all we can at this point. So, we tried formula at the first night feeding (which is about 2:30 now). And, he slept like 3 hours...it was great! So, I think we are going to do this for now...and I'll try to pump too so that he can have all BM during the day.
How is everyone? jeni - sorru your incision is still so sore. I don't know about that, since I had a v____al birth. But, based on the pain I had just to get my appendix out, I'm sure it's horrible.
Colleen - you aren't crazy at all. I''m currently putting together info for the babysitter and I'm writing down SIDS risks and lots of other information... Anything that makes you more comfortable is great! By the way, are the meds till helping you? Like I said, they helped me a lot in the past.
And, tara and jess - how are you?
Take care. I'm off to get things as ready as I can for Wednesdya...Brady's first day at the babysitter...
