From Parenting magazine: Age: 0-2 months, 18 hours per day; Age 2-12 months, 14 to 15 hours per day; Age 12-18 months, 13 to 14 hours per day; Age 18 months to 3 years, 12 to 14 hours per day; Age 3 to 6 years, 11 to 13 hours per day.

LOL Jamie! I wish my kids would listen to that magazine!! My oldest os almost 5 and I'm lucky if he sleeps 8 hours. My daughtre is 18 month and it differs with her. She never sleeps more than 12 hours a day. My youngest varies a lot. I think it is most of the day though. When we out he sleeps all the time when he is in the pram.

A week old? All the time!!!! At least for the next few weeks. Then they're awake a little bit here and there but not much. My five week old might stay awake an hour or two at a time and then nap for 3 hours.

Yes, they sleep all the time and only wake up for feeds. Nadya is 9 weeks tomorrow, and stil spends most of the day sleeping. She has play times now, but gets tired very quickly. She did have a couple of days, where she stayed awake almost all day, but she was in a screaming temper all evening because she was over-tired. Now I look for the slightest sign of tiredness and encourage her to sleep. She's much happier.

My son seemed to be awake all the time the first 6 weeks. He's sleep for 1-2 hours and then be up for an hour. He probably got the 18 hours but being broken up was hard for me. Now at 6 months he is the best sleeper. He sleeps for about 10 hours at night and then takes a morning nap and an afternoon nap. I love his sleeping schedule. You'll be fine in a month or two. Try to have people help you so you can get some sleep. My sis had her first at 16 and we helped her out so much so she could get back to school and graduate.

LOL Lesley...my 3 month old, fortunately, does sleep 15 hours per day - she sleeps 12 hours at night (yay me!!!) with 1 feeding, and then takes 3 1-hour naps throughout the day.

Well, unless you have a not normal baby like mine, they are supposed to sleep most of the day. LOL!! My litlle angel is not a sleeper. As a newborn would be awake most of the day with few naps, and would be up evey hour on the hour all night. Just now at 3 months he is starting to take a 2-3 hr nap during the day, along with 3 or 4 catnaps. He will sleep at night with only one feeding, but so far he does not enjoy sleeping. Hope you have better luck with your little one. Lucas is the most beautiful baby but I would love to have a clean house again!!!
