Just wondering

The store I used to work at wouldn't do it unless they were 6 months.

I just got my daughter's done, she is 3 months old, as long as they have their first shots it's fine. She cried for about 30 seconds and it was all over, and i think it was more from the noise of the gun than anything else. I spray them a few times a day with a solution they gave me and twist them. They are fine and look soooo cute!

What's the big deal about the first shots? I have seen that before but didn't get an answer. Is the process so unsanitary that shots are neccessary? I want to get my daughters ears pierced but am not too keen on vaccinations. So I need more info on the piercing process, can anyone help?

It's the teta__s shot that they need before their ears are pierced.

Wow didn't know Teta__s was a concern with this, makes it sound really unsanitary now. I guess I will be skipping ear piercing too. Unless its possible to find a dr who will do it. Thanks!

Do a search on "piercing baby's ears" and you'll find a lot of articles written by doctors about the pros and cons...I had my daughter's ears pierced at Walmart and it seemed like a sanitary procedure to me. It was easier for me to do it when she was young, because then every time I changed her diaper I could remember to put the solution on her ears. Once they get a little older, they go through phases where they don't want mommy to do anything for them.

i pierced my daughter ears when she was 3 months. i think it hurt me more than her. she only cried for 30 sec you just have to clean them with alcohol and turn them twice a day.

I PIERCED MY DAUGHTERS AT 6 WEEKS .YOU CAN PIERCE YOUR BABIES EARS AS LONG AS YOU USE REAL 14 KT AND MOST PLACES ONLY PIERCE WITH STAINLESS STEAL AND THE BABY WILL NEED THE 1ST SHOTS.THE 14 KT WAY IS ABOUT 40 DOLLARS AND THE STAINLESS STEAL IS ONLY 10 DOLLARS OR CHEAPER.

Nini - November 10

Sorry i didnt make that clear i meant to say that you will need the shots if you use the stainless steal with the 14 kt you will not.My daughter is doing fine and is already 3 1/2 months and has no infections.

You can also get earings made of Surgical Steel. I'm allergic to silver, and have always reguired gold earings. But I found these Surgical Steel ones, and they are great. I got my first peircings at 12 mos.

Where I live, NYC, they would do it while your child is any age. The process is not unsanitary enough that shots are neccessary. Everything is sterile. Well you should make sure that you witness everything being sterile. My mother got my ears pierced when I was 6wks old.

You know, I did not read the previous posts and I totally forgot about the teta__s shot. I just spoke to my doctor friend however and he said that as long as it is being cleaned and baby is not exposed to a lot of people she should be fine. I don't know about that. Good thing that I have a son. I think I would wait until after my daughter has had a teta__s shot. Using 14kt anything does not stop anyone from getting teta__s bc it enters through a pucture wound. It does not matter how or what kind of material that the body was punctured with.

I used to pierce their little ears myself. We never required teta__s shots there, though I suppose it wouldn't hurt. General ear piercing stores are very sterile, it's not the sort of thing I myself would worry about. I'm not a huge fan of little babies getting their ears pierced as I think they should make their own decisions (though it's just my opinion). That being said, babies cry less than anyone else, IF they even cry at all.

I just went out and bought the magnetic kind, we will use them for special occasions only. Like tonite to make her dad c___p his pants. >:oD
