I know this isn't infant care, but I need input. my husband and i are naming our son Cassian. Pronounced Cashen. It means a lot to us to name him this because it is after someone important, and we aren't going to pick another name. The only problem is people are telling me (only after they SEE the name printed out) that his nickname will be Cassi. Though I don't see how - it's pronounced Cashen, not Cassyen. I don't want his nickname to be Cassi!!! Do you really think it will be? I mean, how many times when you tell someone your kids' name do you spell it for them? For all they'll know, it's Cashen. I'm just bothered by it. Should I be? We'll prob. call him Cash or something.

As far as the nickname thing, that is out of your control. My oldest, Chelsea has the nickname of Chachi (a little girl couldn't pronounce her name and it stuck) -- 12 years later we all still call her Cha-chi - and you know what, she loves it. Go figure. My brother has the normal Christian name of Matt - cant screw that one up, right? Wrong. His friends call him Boy. He is 31 years old and has had that nickname for 17 years now. Some things are just out of our control so I dont worry about it. Best of Luck.

The only thing I can think of is that when someone reads his name they'll pronounce it wrong. (for example the teacher on the first day of school each year). My sister is named Rosellen, which we pronounce Rose-ellen, but when we moved to Texas everyone here pronounces it Rozz-len and it drives my sister crazy. It's been bothering her for about 18 years.

kris A. - I get the strangest looks when I tell people my baby's name is Aja. It's like they are not prepared to hear anything other than "Tyler", "Logan", or "Dylan". BTW - I think Ca__sian is a very unique and nice name.

My husband has the nice normal name Patrick- his mom was worried when he was little that he'd get stuck with "Pat" for a nickname, so his whole life, even 28 years later, she is still saying "PatRICK!" when anyone calls him Pat. I don't think anyone would call a boy Ca__si, unless maybe they were teasing him. I really like Ca__sian for a boy :)

I like the name Ca__sian. To an extent, you can control his nickname...my older brother is named Robert Jameson; when he was born, my dad's (hick) family wanted to call him Bobby Jim. My mom said over her dead body, and he is Robbie. Me, on the other hand, they call Jimmy. She couldn't do anything about that one.

I would think his nickname would be Cash. You can call him whatever nickname you like!

I also agree that his nick name will probably not come from his name at all, I have a friend who's little brother's nick name is Brother. She has called him that since he was born and now his parnets and everyone we went to school with called him Brother. My daughters name is Amaya Jayne and when I was pregnant everyone said people will make fun of her name by saying Oh Me Oh Amaya (kinda like oh me oh my) And MyAmaya (when you say it is kinda sounds like somehting you would eat at a Chinese Resturant lol) Now her only nick name that anyone has given her is AJ (first letters from first and middle name) and that is just because her cousin will not say Amaya, people will ask if he can say it and he jsut says no.
