my newborn has seemed to develop some pretty bad stuffiness in his nose. you can tell its a bit difficult/uncomfortable while hes feeding. he sneezes quite often and is coughing a bit too, is this part of the normal congestion problem newborns have, or is this a cold or something else that requires attention from my doctor?

Nicole, my baby had the same thing: nasal stuffiness almost always at the beginning. He is 2.5 mos old now but I used to be concerned about his breathing because he always sounded as if his nose was plugged. Basically what I got from docs was: if he isn't in respiratory distress or turning blue or has a fever there isn't much I could do. Which of course you can imagine that did not help me at all. I didn't want to get to that point. If your baby doesn't have a fever, is eating and wetting diapers well and isn't having any obviuos problems breathing you can use the nasal syringe that the hospitals usually give you (or you can buy one) to suction out his/her nose. I bought something called "little noses" which are saline drops that you put in before and makes suctioning a lot more effective. They also have a kit that comes with the spray and a nice soft tipped syringe. The drops are not medicated so you can use them as often as you need to. I found that to help a lot but if you cont.' concerned see your doctor-that's what they're there for. :) Try that and hope it helps!!
