To Vaccinate Or Not To

The MMR vaccine has never contained thimerosal. This is a live virus vaccine. The thimerosal would kill the virus. There are two theories about vaccines and autism. The first is that the MMR vaccine causes autism in some people. The evidence for this is that many autisitic children have measles in their gut. The second is that a c_mulation of thimerosal from all of the shots causes autism in some people who have certain genitic factors. Many beleive that the thimerosal primes the individual and makes them vulnerable to the MMR shto. So the MMR is the "icing on the cake."

The rate of problems is with vaccinations is very low, in the 1 in a millions. However, if you don't vaccinate your child and its get ones of those diseases the death rate is very high and some cause blindness or serious health complications. The pros far out weigh the cons.

I decided not to vaccinate my son at all when he was born in December because I researched exhaustively the pros and cons. I believe there are pros but the cons seemed very large to me. I believe the most dangerous vaccines are the DPT and the MMR. The DPT is thought to be the number one cause of SIDS as most babies die of SIDS between 2 and 4 months and that is also when the DPT is administered. I have two autistic cousins that both began showing signs within days of their vaccines. The MMR has also been linked to devestating diseases as well. As for people saying "only one in one thousand children have a reaction"... well, what if your child is number 1000? Of course, most doctors will not link SIDS (another cousin's baby died from this at 3 months) or Autism with the vaccine because they could then have a lawsuit on their hands which I fully understand their wish to avoid. But I think parents are wise to study up on the subject and not just treat it as a routine procedure. Anyway, that's my two cents.

My son is autistic and I do believe vaccines had everything to do with it. However I don't think vaccines in itself are bad. I think the quant_ty and the frequency of the vaccines are what cause the damage. You can ask your doctor to split the vaccines into more visits and reduce the risk this way.

I didn't read all these msgs but I do agree with Sara G. We are doing one at a time and our dr. is supportive. Abby had the HIB vaccine and 6 months later tested positive for it. It was minor, but would have possibly been bad had we not vaccinated her. This taught me a lesson - vaccines are ok and I was glad I was spreading them out.

During my pregnancy with my 3rd child, I had all of the regular blood tests. After one, the doctor told me that my Rubella vaccine had basically "worn off" and that after delivery I would be given a new vaccine. Evidently, that is something they regularly check for . I asked and researched the pros and cons and was told that if I did not revaccinate and ever got pregnant again and contracted it in the 1st trimester, I could lose the pregnancy or the baby could be seriously disfigured. So, I got the vaccine. There were no side effects, but it was a huge needle (yuck!).

Just do it, its rediculous to think these shots are harmful.

I am opting out on most of these. I had Chicken Pox and will never have it again, because I had it as a child. I am hoping the same for my child, WHEN he is older. Getting these shots doesnt even guaruntee that you won't contract what you've been immunized against. Nothing beats natural immunity.

I had my son vaccinated and will have my next baby vaccinated as well. I only believe what I can find proof of. No one really knows if they cause autism or not, but they have proof it prevents death. Also, in canada you need to have your child vaccinated just to put them in a daycare/dayhome, nevermind school. If you feel the need to stretch them out a bit, wait until their a little bit older, sure, just get them done. The thing about german measels (or rubella) is that vaccinated people can still be carriers to those who are not vaccinated, and if they even have any symptom at all they are a carrier, it's a mild rash. I was not vaccinated for this as a baby and when i was pregnant while working in a daycare, my doctor pretty much told me to quit my job. Also, one of the vaccines we get, i'm not sure about other places, contains a meningitis vaccination. There was a ma__sive outbreak of it here a few years ago and alot of people died. And Hep B can be contracted by something as simple as drinking a gla__s of water, or tetnus by stepping on a nail.

Lynn - July 29

You cannot get hep b from sharing a drink or anything like that. It is contracted the same as HIV/AIDS- blood & s____n are the main carriers. In fact, infants are one of the lowest risk groups for Hep B infection. That is really why most people feel it unnecessary to vaccinate against it so young, especially since it is now thought to wear off and children will need a booster in the pre-teen years. The theory behind vaccination so young was that you have the child right there, you don't have to rely on a follow-up appt when they are 10 or 12, but now many doctors are re-thinking the "vaccinate at birth" if the mom is not positive for Hep B. If she is, then there are ways to pervent the transmission of the virus to the baby.

great idea!!! - July 29

sure!! don't vaccinate your kids! also, allow them to run wild and eat insects and wild game since these are not full of toxins and hormones. also, make sure you expose them to plenty of sick people so you can naturally build up their immune systems. don't forget to keep them far away from hospitals when they are ill too, afterall, what do doctors know?

I'd like to commend all of the ladies who are actually researching these issues. I have decided some of these shots may not be necessary just yet. So I am waiting too, seeing others who have made the same choice is great. It only reinforces what I believe to be the best course of action for my family. Keep up the good work and please add more links.

I did not vaccinate my first, she is going to be 9 this month and is very healthy. She has already had the chickenpox, we made it through no problem and we believe she has had Rubella, again made it thru with no problem, if fact, it easier than chickenpox. I did all sorts of research prior to having her, all because of an article in Mothering magazine. It had both arguments and left me wondering. So, I did my research and made my decision. No regrets. I am not pregnant with my second and learned from a naturalpath that they are now making them with out the mercury. So, I need to again start doing more research. Maybe I will vaccinate against some, but definately not all... MMR is the least of my worries, as is chicken pox and hep. However, leaving near the border scares me sometimes of Diptheria.... Yet, I haven't heard of any cases of Diptheria either. I have a feeling that one will eventually be erradicated just like small pox. Is anyone out there aware of any good support/networking groups for people with our same beliefs. I'd love to start meeting people with my safe beliefs. The problem with a site like this is that you have people pop up that think we are wrong. I believe there is no right or wrong way. Just like a song by Olivia Newton John "I can think one thing you can think other doesn't me I'm wrong, just means that both us has the right to choose"....

hmmm? - August 9

I wonder how many of you trace mercury worriers have yet to cut seafood (containing mercury) from your diets?

freedom on choice - August 9

I already cut seafood from my diet. Did my research on mercury in fish. Some are worse than others, like Tuna, Swordfish, etc. So hmmmmm to you too. I knew I had good reason to be reluctant to post on this site due to people like you who don't believe in the freedom of choice....
