To Vaccinate Or Not To

congratulations carrie - August 15

carrie = the worlds biggest idiot hahaha! you probably did your research from a tabloid magazine.

~ to Hello - August 15

You should also see if your hospital will be giving your child a HepB shot. Most hospitals give this within 12 hrs of birth and they are so routine the parents are not informed beforehand. You should check the risk factors to decide if this shot would be beneficial to your child. E you jinxed us, it looks as if some of those nasty people you referred to earlier have found their way here. :(

Carrie, if autism is your primary concern, why don't you at least vaccinate your child from the illnesses that have vaccines which do not contain thimerosol? Also, you have no idea if your child needs vaccinations to survive. Let's hope you do not find out the hard way.

~ - August 16

E you seem to be very adamant about vaccinations, maybe could post some links to the research you've done? I would be very interested in reading the info that led you to this position.

to ~ - August 16

E doesn't have to post the links to her research, it is common sense. Something which you quite obviously lack!

bystander - August 16

As a bystander I am seeing a lot of vicous attacks out there. I do not push one side or the other. I am a fair person who feels everyone is ent_tled to his/her opinion and freedom of choice. It is a shame that some people have to be so judgemental of others. And it is not only with this issue but life in general.

E - August 16

I do not think I need to post any information as to why one should vaccinate their children. Like the other post stated, it is common sense and is to protect your child from deadly and/or debilitating illnesses, which still exist. If you really need me to post links, I can fill the page when I return home this evening. I doubt you will be able to hit them all. What is the point? I am in the majority, and usually it is the minority opinion that needs to state their case. I did not knock on your door and demand to know if you vaccinated your children. You volunteered this information.

I am at a loss as to why you are so confrontational about this. My question wasn't meant to be offensive. The point is to have enough info from both sides, it's really the best way to make an informed decision. Also it may help sway the "Carrie type" who you feel has not done adequate research. I am looking forward to your links.

E - August 16

Sorry, I did not mean to appear confrontational. You were simply asking for links. My stand remains that you can find them at the CDC website, and so many others, and that they are not necessary to post.

Oh, of course, I understand.~

Tam - August 17

Hey ladies-I was just wondering if any of your read the news? Well yesterday there was a big story at msnbc.com about a big POLIO outbreak in India-apparently it is coming back big because people aren't immunized. I know we don't live in India-or most of us don't, but the fact is, these diseases can come back in a big way and start affecting our children. I don't know why anyone would take the risk of letting them get something like meningococcal or even pertussis as babies when they can die from it rather than allow them to have the shots that can prevent that. Instead of going to all these health web sites and researching why the shots may or may not cause autism or something like that, why don't you read about the prevelancy of these diseases. A common misconception is that they aren't around anymore, but believe me they are and it is devastating to see a child with polio or one dying in the hospital with meningitis-it was here in the United STates that I saw the meningitis case when some of this could have been prevented. So do your research on both sides-go to the CDC website as E suggested or even go to child development books written by credible authors.

Hi Tam countries like India are using the OPV or Oral Polio Vaccine because it is inexpensive and does not require trained personell to administer it whereas the safer IPV or Inactivated Polio Vaccine does. The OPV, currently in use in India, has caused Polio. OPV is no longer recommended by the CDC-- for Americans because of this risk.

to ~ - August 17

What difference does it make if the oral vaccine is administered or the IPV vaccine if your child isn't vaccinated with EITHER ONE? Do you see the irony????

E - August 17

lmao!!! i cant believe that did not crash the site. again, sorry. i wont do that again.

~ - August 17

Actually what is ironic is that the vaccine could actually cause the disease.

E - August 17

It can cause a much milder form. Afterall, with the oral, you are injecting a live, although attenuated antigen into the body. Not all immune systems are up to par, and some bodies have a difficult time killing off the antigen.
