My baby is 4wks old and still has not lost her stump. The nurse at the hospital told me hers was going to be a tough one to lose, but 4wks. What can I do besides alcohol and when should I become worried about this?

My son lost his at 3 1/2 weeks. It will fall off eventually.

when my pediatrician was looking at my daughters, he was cleaning it with alcohol and gently pulling/pushing it aside to clean it. This seemed to really loosen it up, and a few days later it fell off. I guess my advice is to make sure you are really getting in there to clean it with the alcohol, and as these other ladies have said - it is bound to fall off at some point! It's just annoying and stinking and frustrating... so hang in there!

I had to take my daughter to her pediatrician to get hers off. She was 4 weeks old also. I could raise it up and see part of the umbilical cord still under the stub. He had to cut it off. It bled like crazy, but is fine now. He said it never would have come off on its own and would have ended up getting infected. I's have the doctor check it out.
