I am almost 36 weeks now, and I have been having very sharp pains by my pubic bone. Last night I had them for about an hour, about every 3 to 5 and then 5-10 minutes. My back has been cramping for a few days now. I have also had strong menstrual like cramps for a couple of days. I did have these cramps last week for a few hours. Anyway, this is my first time, and I am not sure what is what, contraction, cramp, tightening, labor, false labor, what? Please help!

I am also a first timer and also very confused about all these pains and cramps. I am 371/2 weeks and when I was about 35 weeks I had pain similare to what you are describing. I am not for sure what was causing it but I did drop at my 36 week appointment, so I think that is what was causing the sharp pain and cramping.

you're having braxton hicks contractions...and the sharp pains in your pubic area is just from the baby's head being down there....trust me when you're having real labor contractions you will know. they're all in your back and they hurt like hell. there wont be any doubt its labor! good luck

Real labor contractions will last for at least a minute and will come at regular intervals and get stronger. When you are having them 5 minutes apart and at least a minute long for over an hour, it's time to head to labor and delivery.

Thanks for all the feed back! I feel a lot better now. I am sure I will question what is what again, but I am looking forward to feeling the real thing!
