I was just wondering if contractions feel like period cramps? I hate period cramps and always got them super bad. Does this have any effect on how painful my labor will be? Im gettng closer, Im 37 weeks and Im a little nervous about labor. Thank you

Sort of. It tightens up and is more painful than period cramps, and more defined. And if you had super bad ones, you'll be more accustomed to the pain.. trust me! I had them, and I went through the contractions peacefully.

Thank you, I want very much to have a natural labor without an epidural or pain medicine. I wouldnt mind an epidural but I really dont like the idea of not being able to feel my legs and get up to move around..So I really want to use more natural methods like a shower and stuff, I am just getting a little apprehensive about the pains of contrations...thanks for answering me though. I have also heard that kidney stones are more painful than labor and I have had those before so hopefully labor wont be too bad for me. Thanks again!

Yw, but there are also little drugs you can get to help make the pain a little .. less. The epidural reallyyy helped me, but I still felt half of the contractions.

mine felt so like period cramps i didn't realise i was in real labour. Even after my waters had broken and i was on my way to the hospital i thought i'd get sent home. But boy did they get stronger after that!! I had a natural birth as there was no time for meds, i wont lie and say it didn't hurt cause it was blooming sore but i did it and im still here to tell the tale :o) and i'm rubbish with pain. Next time however if there's time i'm gonna ask for something to take the edge off to help me cope a bit better.

Thanks for the replys...I do very much want a natural labor but Im not totally ruling out pain meds or an epidural, I would just rather not have them. I have been having braxton hicks contractions and I dont think those are bad so hopefully they are similar....thanks a bunch!

I've had really bad period cramps as well, and this is my first pregnancy. Sometimes I even feel nauseous........ can contractions make you feel nauseous too?

i think every labour is different so some people will feel sick while others don't. Personally the only time I felt nauseous throughout my labour was when i tried gas and air. 1st time i had a puff i was sick everywhere so didn't want it, midwife persuaded me to try it again an hour later, and bleurgh all over again all over her...she didn't try to tell me to use it again :o)
