Jayne, I don't know that this is going to help much but I've been having contractions that aren’t sending me into “labor” as well. I'm 38w's and have had BH's for most of this pregnancy (hard ones since about 16w's and they often have been 6+ an hour). Two weeks ago I woke up w/ contractions 5 minutes apart that were very uncomfortable but nothing worse then some of the BH's had been. The contractions went on, and after 15 hrs of them (they never got harder or closer together) I was exhausted and hadn't been able to get any sleep. So, we went to L&D. Well, they told me I wasn't any more dilated then I had been 4 days prior at my doc appointment (just starting to dilated and thin but not much). They gave me a sleep aid and sent me home. When I woke up the contractions were down to 2-4 and hour. I saw the doc 2 days later and apparently even though L&D had said they weren't doing anything I was dilated to 1.5 cm so they did do something (my doc was really surprised actually). Then this last week I had another day of hard contractions, 5 minutes apart. I didn't bother going to L&D though as they didn't get harder or closer together. The lasted about 9-10 hr and then backed off again to a couple an hr. When I saw the doc a day later (Thursday) I was dilated to about 3, 50% effaced and completely soft. She said if I dilate any farther I'm considered in "active labor" but even at that I'm still just sitting around. It's Saturday night and still no actual 'labor.' Contractions are always a few hard ones an hour but nothing more. I understand that it must be even more frustrating for you when they've hardly dilated you, but apparently even when you are dilating and contracting, they don't always send you into actual labor. I guess we're just stuck waiting, and maybe next time you see the doc the contractions will have done more then they initially thought they had. Good luck.

Thanks for your answer. They haven't stopped at all since I posted that first message, just slowed.They are about 5/6 every hr now. Due date today, still no baby tho boohoo. Good luck and lets hope your not going to be waiting as long as I am by the looks of things, as I'm not at docs till thursday now at the post pregnancy appointment.

jayne, I know how ya feel, my due date was 3/19 and well it's 3/25 and no baby...I have been having contractions that will be regular for awhile then all of a sudden not. It's very depressing to get excited and then nothing...they are inducing me wed the 28th...I hope your baby comes naturally , maybe mine will too. Sorry I don't have anything magical to say, but hang in there, it will come to an end soon...

Hello ladies....I am 3 days overdue and feeling like I am going insane....can't relax, feel like I am falling apart right at the end. I have been so lucky so far...and grateful for such a great pregnancy....but now in the home stretch I am falling apart....does not help my mother has been in town for a week and well..... any soothing thoughtz? I hope someone has given birth.... ;)

Hi steph, If you've not had your baby yet *good luck tomorrow*, I've been having really bad pains but nothing else, still argh!!! RA i know what you mean, it's really killing me that my baby isn't here, each day is dragging, i'm only two days over but it feels like 2 years. Just like you each twinge i'm like 'is this it?' unfortunately not! :'(

I woke up this morning having very strong contractions, they are about 12 min apart, so I still got awhile, but maybe this will help my induction go faster. good luck to you overdue gals

Hey again girls, still no baby for me. Hope the story is different for you both! My contractions stopped completely so on wednesday I'm going to be induced. I'm only 1.5 cm dilated and 30% effaced, how poo is that lol. I had a membrane sweep, kinda eye watering lol. Although I felt sore after nothing has changed. No bleeding and no more mucus plug. oh well....

Have you tried making love Jayne? I was about to be induced with my first and I went into labor the next day after this. I can't say it was one of the most pleasureable experiences of my life but it was soo worth it to deliver! LOL Good luck!
