Do they isert the urinary catheter before or after the epidural. If before, does it hurt?

it depends on the progress of your labor, such as how close you are to pushing. Regardless, it doesnt hurt and you wont even know its there.

The catheter does not hurt at all when they put it in or take it out.

Once you have had the baby and are feeling a little better ask them to remove the catheter. A friend had her baby (in the uk) and they left the catheter in for over 3 hours after she gave birth (she has to ask for them to take it out so she could shower) .She ended up with a bad urinary tract infection which keeps coming back. Her dr said it was probably due to this.
