That Crampy Feeling

I am 37 and a half weeks and a couple nights ago I started feeling period-like cramping, but only during the night as I slept. It goes away in the day. From reading the posts I know this is normal as I near the end, but my question is why do they last a good portion of the night without subsiding? I can't time them because the feeling doesn't really go away. I start feeling crampy laying on my side and remain crampy until I get up. Is this feeling a sign of progression? Anyone else? I'm also getting shooting pains that feel like the baby just punched my cervix - kind of an electric feeling that shoots and hurts like h__l!!!! I'd love to know if anyone has some knowledge to share!

hey gen im 40 wks today im scheduled 4 induction on fri morn and i have been having cramps and backpain for about 2 wks the dr said its my body getting ready for birth and if it gets too bad to go to hospital and get checked incase i am going into labour its good though to get the cramps because it helps your cervix to thin out and dialate also the pains in the cervix i call them twinges or shocks is the babys head moving cause the baby is low at 37 wks at least mine is my baby started to drop when i was 6 mos so iv been feelong this for awhile hope this helps and if you r too uncomfortable go in and get checked

Hi Gen, I have the same problem, it only happens at night and I too get the shooting pain in my cervix. The cramping is your body getting ready for labor, I usually just drink a few gla__ses of water and then it makes the pain less hurtful, and for the shooting pain, I was told that it is the baby hitting a nerve, even though it feels like the baby is about to come out hand first.

I am 37 1/2 weeks also and feeling the same stuff to the T. Are you dilated or afaced?

I have no idea. My Dr. hasn't done an internal and he really doesn't communicate with me at all! He takes my blood pressure, listens to the babys heart and tells me everything looks great - see ya next week! Honestly, most of the information I have received has been from this forum! I have learned a TON by reading all the responses - more than I have learned from any Dr.! That's why it is so important that we respond to these posting!

Well I can tell you that i am 35 and 3 days, i had my appendix removed 4 1/2 weeks ago, labor has been stopped twice. For the last two weeks i have been dilated at two and afaced at 20%, yesterday was my visit to the doctor, I am now at a big three and efaced at a 40% to 50%. Gen i feel the same pains, and I thought I was the only one, I explained the electricity feeling to my doctor yesterday and he says a lot of women have told him this, but it doesn't amount to anything. I can tell you that when i first became dilated i had awful back pain and I was dropping pieces of my mucus plug. Any way good luck ladies.
