I would also like to know since I tested positive. Doctor said that I would have to have iv antibiotics during labor.

I tested + for GBS with my 2nd pregnancy. While I was in Labor they put an antibiotic in my iv every hour until I delivered. Me and the Baby turned out to be just fine. With my 3rd I tested - I'll have to wait to see how this one turns out. I am only 13 weeks right now. But being + or GBS wasn't really that big of deal. Nothing to stress out about. Hope this helps!

I tested + with my second. They give you IV antibiotics during labor to kill the bacteria. If they did not do this the baby could get really sick afterwards.( even with meningitis) but as long as you have the antibiotics you guys should be just fine. My son didn't get sick. Another thing is that once you've tested + you are always considered to be positve and will alwayss need to have the antibiotics with every child from here on. That's what i was told even though i tested negative with the one i just delivered.

The same thing happened to me today and I was scared neyond beleif. But i did some research and we will be fine. He also did an internal today and when i got home and went to the bathroom there was a lot of blood and mucus. It has slowed almost stopped tonight, but what do you think? The dr said to come back in if I soaked through pads and that didnt happen so i feel pretty safe. I am 37 weeks.

Heather- the same thing happened to me when they did my GB test (I also tested positive) and when I got home I had bloody show and discharge. The Dr. just told me to expect that with every internal from then on out. I am now 40 weeks and counting the seconds until the baby arrives... Good luck!

Kim~ Do you think that because we are GBS+ we both bled afterword? We both must have sensitive cervixs or something. I was hoping since i was bleeding that labor might start soon. I hope and pray all of our babies are ok (to the ones that are gbs+) Thanks for helping me out Kim.

I don't know if the GBS and bleeding were connected. The Dr. seems to be very nonchalant about both. I called with the bleeding, and he put me at ease saying that the cervix is already under so much stress right now that all of the poking and prodding they do in an internal only aggravates it. No need to worry! My GBS test was almost an afterthought for them. They very casually told me I was positive and would need antibiotics during labor. It wasn't until I got home and read up on it that I was concerned, but he seems to think that we have nothing to worry about. Easy for him to say.... :-)

Kim~ We are so much a like my doctor told me the same thing vrey camly. And then I asked what does this all mean and all i remember him saying was some babies die. That freaked me out enough and then i got home, did some research and found all this stuff that really scared me. But talking to people like the ones on her really calmed me. My bleeding has stopped now, and i suppose it will come back next Monday at my next appt. Good luck to you I am guessing you will have your little one Very soon. I still have 3 weeks if i go that long. Is it your 1st? It is ours and we are having a girl.

kim - September 20

Heather-This is our first and hopefully he/she will come along any day now! We don't know what we are having and I can't wait to find out! Good luck to you and congratulations on your new little girl!

I was + with both pregnancies. With both, I did not have time to receive both doses of the IV antibiotics (they have to be given at least 4 hours apart). With #1, baby had to stay in 48 hours to be observed, but she had no problems. With #2, we had to stay in for 48 hours and she was kept in the NICU for 9 hours as a high-risk baby, since she had an increased white blood cell count. It was scary, but she ended up being fine. It was a ha__sle, since she couldn't be in the room with me for intial bonding and I had to scrub into the NICU in order to feed her. If we have another, and I was going to be induced, I would go in early to get both doses. Don't worry too much about this, though, since you'll probably have time to get both doses. In my case, labor #1 was 8 hours, but I had trouble with the IV, since I was dehydrated. With #2, I was induced and had a 3 hr labor.

if your baby was under observation for 48 hours, did you still go ahead and announce the birth or did you wait till everything was good before announcing your babys arrival.. i find it hard not to worry about it, even though the chances of my baby actually getting sick are so low, i lost my only sibling 3 years ago and just have a hard time staying positive. the negative things ppl say about GBS always stay in my head, i have bad nightmares and everything, i just wish my baby would come so i can stop worrying..

C - September 22

I also tested positive, the doctor said it does no harm to me but it could the baby, but I just don't understand why would it be ok to carry it but would harm a baby

heather - September 22

C~ When the baby goes through the v____a at birth the baby can get some of the bacteria into its body and cause harm. When women get pregnant the bacteria can go into the v____a or rectum, it comes and goes throughout or lives. men even carry it but since they cant get pregnant they dont even know they have it and we wouldnt really either if we didnt test for it. I guess it can live in your guts/intestines, rectum or v____a. The only way it will make you sick is if your immune system would weaken. My mom was wondering why they dont just do C sectins on everybody that carries this, but i guess they think C sections have a greater risk of doing harm to us and the baby than getting antibiotcs during natural labor. Without antibiotics your baby has a 1:200 chance of getting sick with the antibiotic it has a 1:4000 chance. I have been researching this for a couple days because I was really concerned. But i am content now, knowing that so many women didnt have any complications with their babies afterwords. Good luck to you!

My sister had GBS when she delivered her 2nd child. She had the doses of Antibiotics and her son is now 6 years old with no side effects. I am almost 9 months pregnant and have also been diagnosed with GBS. The doctors are going to put me on the antibiotics before I deliver and I am sure that it is going to be ok for you!!

C - September 23

Oh ok, thanks, I told my sister who has never had kids that I tested positive and she acted as though I had a disease and I tried to explain it to her, then I felt bad that she even thought I had a disease.

heather - September 23

c~ I think everyone acts like that at first if they dont know what it is. Thats how i felt about myself until I asked around and did research on it. I was like how could I possible have this, my husband and i have only been with each other and I am a very clean person. then I found out it has nothing to do with any of that. So dont worry everything will be fine and tell your sister she should do some research on it herself so she doesnt think bad things like a scary disease. Its hard to explain until you know the facts.
