Question About Other Pain Meds Besides Epidural

I know there are other pain med's out there besides an epidural. There is demerol, and something else my doc mentioned, but I forgot the name of it. I would like to hear from other women who got these other durgs besides an epidural, and how did they work? any side effects? I will eventually get around to asking my doc, but he is always soooo busy, he acts like he does not have time to answer all my questions....but I will ask him when I get closer to "that time"

I had stadol at first for both of my labors. It made me loopy and made me feel really drunk...but it did nothing for the pain. I was told that all they offered at the hospital i use is stadol and epidurals. I took the epidural. Im pregnant with my third and m not even going to mess with the stadol. It just seemed pointless.
