8 Weeks Measures 4 5 At Ultrasound

I am 38 yrs. old and was estimated to be 8 weeks along. I have started spotting which was worrisome. After blood tests showed hormones rising, but not quite doubling, an ultrasound showed a gestational sac and yolk estimated to be 4.5 weeks.
Can the dates be that far off? Does that small size foreshadow an unhealthy pregnancy and growth?
