I had the amnio because they found choroid plexus cysts and a calcium spot on my baby's heart at my level two ultrasound. Both of these are signs for downs and Trisomy 18. I was scared- but I wanted to know for sure- atleast to prepare my family for what was to come. It didn't hurt. The results came back negative . It's been several weeks and I haven't had any problems. I hope this helps you with your decision. What does your heart tell you?

I had a amnio last year as a result of blood test done for my IPS test, they gave me a greater then 9 out of 10 chance that the baby I was carring had downs, I needed to know for sure that this was true so I had it done, it did not hurt, we were hoping for a miracle it turns out the results showed he had modiate to severe downs. we choose to abort I did talk to some of my other friends who have had amnios with similar results (greater than 7 out of 10) and they both have beautiful normal babies, the blood test is not always right. I wish you luck whatever you choose

Well I don't have an answer to your question, but I had a second trimester sonogram done today (7/14/05) and they came into the room to suggest that I have an amnio done. The reason being was because they saw someting on the heart and kidney that suggested the chromosomes are low and that I should get one. But I am unsure, I trust in God.
