I am sixteen weeks pregnant and my doctor tells me I have a low lying placenta. She told me that I should not have s_x, and not do too much strenuous exercise. I found that very vague. Can anyone tell me how much exercise I can still do? Can I walk every day, for example, for an hour? Is that considered strenuous? I am so nervous.

I also have this, as does my sister - she is 30 weeks pregnant and I am 26 weeks pregnant. I still walk, work every day, swim and have s_x. Have had no bleeding etc. Have another scan at 36 weeks to see if it has moved. I would not worry too much, unless it is completely covering the cervix or you have been bleeding?

I ALSO HVE THIS PROBLEM. AND MY DOCTOR DID NOT TELL ME ANYTHING THAT I SHOULD NOT DO SO MINE MUST NOT BE TO BAD. SENSE YOUR DOCTOR TOLD YOU TO AVOID THESE THING THEN YOURS COULD BE COVERING YOUR CERVIX A LITTLE MORE. BY DOING ANYTHING STRENOUS AND HAVING s_x CAN CAUSE IT TO RUPTURE AND WOULD CAUSE YOU TO HEMMORIDGE. I WOULD LISTEN TO THE DOCTOR IF I WERE YOU.I HOPE THAT YOURS AND MY PLACENTA MOVE. TAKE CARE AND BEST OF LUCK!!

I was diagnosed with a low lying placenta at 16 weeks too. I'm now 26 weeks and still walk, work, and have s_x. When I found out I had a low lying placenta, I panicked too. Please don't worry because other than moderating your routine there isn't a whole heap you can do. Apparently, about 95% of the time the placenta rises around the 28th week and you can deliver v____ally. See http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/pregnancy/pregcomplications/830.html
I would ask your doctor to be more specific if you find their answers vague or ambiguous. Good luck.

I just found out today that I have this - I am 14 1/2 weeks - I am really nervous - feel like my stomach hurts - but is probably nerves - does this increase the chance of miscarriage?

I also have this. I was told at 16 weeks after an ultrasound given because of spotting. The spotting started after I had s_x. My Doctor put me on bed rest and pelvic rest (No s_x..) The bleeding stopped after 4 days, then I had an orgasm (Not by intercourse) and I spotted the next day. I would encourage you to rest until your next ultrasound, it's hard to do, especially if you have other kids, but, I think it pays off. I'm 18 weeks now, and am still hopefull that the placenta will move up by my next ultrasound in 2 weeks. Hope this helps!

i too have a low lying placenta, i'm neally 29wks and it still hasn't moved. My Question is that i was told that it could have been caused by tramua to that area (ie miscarriage etc) I had a miscarrage neally 2 yrs ago and got bad infection in my womb and had bad tissue damage, has anyone else with low lying placenta had any previous problems prior to falling preg?

To ease everyone's fears - I had a partial praevia (covering part of the cervix). which moved up all on its own by 30 weeks. I refrained from excerise and s_x, and still had some spotting in the 2nd trimester. All went well. My friend had a complete praevia and was on complete bedrest for two months (hard with toddlers around). She had two major bleeds. They gave her steroids to mature the baby's lungs in case she needed to be delivered early. Another major bleed at 7 1/2 months, so mom was delivered early. The baby's lungs were good due to the steroid treatment, so she was just fine. It was nerve-wracking, but everything turned out OK there too. Best of luck to all!

Sheree -
I think you are right. I had a D&C for a blighted ovum just 2 1/2 weeks before getting pregnant with my daughter and developing placenta praevia in that pregnancy. I was told that the upper area of the uterus may not have healed yet, so the baby implanted down low, where it was smooth.... That's why doctors tell you to wait at least a month after mc, I guess... Still, it's hard not to take advantage of that period of heightened fertility.
