I am 14 weeks and have been diagnosed with PIH. My doctor has put me on blood pressure medicine. Anyone else had this too? Apparently because it was diagnosed before 20 weeks they don;t give it the preeclampsia label, but it does increase my risks of developing preeclampsia. I found some stuff on some UK websites that describe it as a rise in blood pressure as a result of the increase in estrogen. And that it is considered transient if it goes away after the baby is born or chronic if it doesn't. I cna't find anything on PIH before 20 weeks on any US websites. All they talk about is preeclampsia and the possiblity of me & the baby dying & it is scaring the shit out of me.

hi there...my blood pressure went up suddenly at 28 weeks and one weeks bed rest has brought it back down for the time being. Unless protein is in your urine aswell as high blood pressure, they won't label you with pre-eclampsia but they will keep an eye on you for possible PE symptoms. I think the stats for people with transient gestational hypertention is that they have a 25% chance of developing PE which is slightly more than if their pressure was "normal". On the upside there's a 75% chance that you will have nothing to worry about. It is scary when PE is even mentioned to you but try to be rea__sured that they are monitoring you closely. Symptoms of PE developing include a headache that won't go away with painkillers, visual disturbances (blurred vision or spots), a pain high up on your right side, sudden severe swelling.
