Short Cervix

Hi, I am 18 weeks pregnant and just came back from my ultrasound. (We are having a boy!) The doctor had to leave before he could review the results of the ultrasound for a delivery. After the ultrasound was over, the head nurse came in and said that I have a "short cervix" and to refrain from s_x until I am able to speak to the doctor on Tuesday. She didn't tell me how short, but from the finger gestures she was making it look like about half the size of normal. I am trying not to worry until I speak with the doctor on Tuesday, but everything I've read so far on "short cervixes" talks about pre-term births. I am wondering if anyone out there has had a short cervix and gave birth at close to full term without having any of the procedures done ( cerclage etc.)? I don't know if I have a "naturally short cervix" or if this is a result of the pregnancy. I have read studies that say that performing cerclages was not beneficial in helping to avoid miscarriage/ pre-term birth. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
