Umbilical Cord One Vein One Artery

I have been told I have only one artery in my umbilical cord instead of the mormal two. How may this affect my baby? I'm five months pregnant. The baby appears to be thriving.

Heidi I have just been told the same!! HAve you had any answers elsewhere?

The doc said it could be a chromosomal abnormality or for what ever reason one of the veins was there but it didn't thrive. He said the most common side effect of this is a lower birth weight. The chances are so slim that it is chromosomal that they don't justify the risk of having an amnio. So breath easy and have a healthy baby.
