Ethi I am 14 wks. and my paragaurd is up in the uterus with the baby. My last US was 6 wks. ago and it was on the right side. My doc. who admits he has never done this before tells me it can't move, but research has proved other wise. He says he going to treat this as normal pg since he doesn't know what else to do. I live in a tiny community 3hrs. from any specailist. Although i've consulted with one he was a jerk. I still cramp and spot at least once a week. I am a nursing student and my instructors have taken my physical activity down a few notches even if the Dr. wont. If there is any out there farther along I would love to hear from you.

I had my mirena inserted October 13, 2004!

Angie - August 27

I have had my Mirena in since June of 2004 (that seems to be a bad year for the Mirena). Anywho, two months after I had it inserted, I stopped having my periods all together. I freaked at first , and when I found out I wasnt pregnant (blood test), the doctor told me that it was possible I just wouldnt have periods anymore with the IUD. Ok, great. I have had only 3 or 4 days with VERY light spotting since I had it inserted. I am in a monogamous relationship with a great guy, and since August 17 up until yesterday I had a discharge, it was clear/white, thick and had an odor to it. I talked with my mom, she said it could be normal because of the IUD. I was going to wait a few more days and call the Dr. if it didnt pa__s. Well, it stopped yesterday, and the bleeding started. At first it was a very light spotting, and I thought maybe I was going to get a tiny period like I have before. Well today when I woke up, I was bleeding moderately, and it seemed to increase a bit throughout the day, accompanied by light cramping and fatigue. Its not a heavy bleeding, I've used a tampon to prevent leakage, and it is bright red. I was told that if the blood is bright red, that signals a problem, where as a period (like Ive had before) was darker red / brown. I've also come down with a cold in the last few days, sore throat, nasal problems. I really havent had any pregancy symptoms, at least not that I've noticed. Boyfriend is picking up a hpt tomorrow and we will do it..... Im calling the dr. on Monday to make an appointment. I want to ask the ladies here who have gotten prgnt with the IUD, are these similar symptoms to what you had before you found out you were prgnt. Im 20 with a 17 month old, college student, almost full time worker and still live with parents. Im confused, and scared.... my email is Angela.Warner@gmail.com if you guys would like to email advice. I will check this board continuously though, so posting here will be fine. Thank you all for your support !

Angie-I'm talking to my doc on monday too. I also have what looks like a yeast infection plus I have a cold in addition to bright red bleeding. I'm pregnant that I know us but I understand how you feel right my my home and docs office EPTs were negative 2 weeks ago. I'm really nervous right now.

Angela - August 27

i appologize for that last typo but I am NOT preggy that I know of. I didn't want any confusion.

amy. i also have 3 children and 1 step daughter, and it is so hard to deal with.who really knows what will happen, they say that you can carry full term with the iud in place depending where it is,and the other options to remove it is more risky and may cause a miscarrage.but you have to know what you want, and what is safer for the fetus.i on the other hand have opted for the iud removal, and to terminate the pregnancy.a very hard decision for me at that.anyway they told me they couldn't find the strings so they would have to put me under to remove the iud.good luck with your decision. .

Holly - August 28

After my iud was inserted I had periods like normal timing except the iud didnt slow my bleeding down, thats one of the reasons i got it because I am a heavy bleeder.. If anything it made me bleed worse. Angie I also have a discharge and going monday to see what it is. I am thinking it is a infection from where I had the iud. I am hoping to god they didnt miss anything when I had my d&c. But yeah the dishcarge for me is like a constant flow really thick and has odor. As far as your bleeding it may be from the infection but I bled bright red too when i was having a miscarriage. but they doesnt mean you are. You are in my prayers and please let us know what goes on with you. Everyones posting means alot to everyone who visits here because not everbody has the same symptoms with the iud pregnancy .. Ronda- I am sorry to hear about the miscarriage. Even if I would have found out I was pregnant before the iud was removed I dont know what I would. It would be a sad decision to make but my doctor did tell me he had a girl that got pregnant with the iud in place and she wanted to keep the iud in so she could have the baby but she got a very bad infection and almost died loosing the baby in the preocess.. but I wouldnt wish that on anyone and I know how diffcult it is to have to loose something so precious. So hang in there girls.. I am here for all of you..

Ronda -- please let me know what happens. I am pretty certain (now) that I do not want any more children. I'm just too old, and I don't see my life really stabilizing during the next few years. Plus, my children are already having such a difficult time with the divorce, there is no way I could suddenly expose them to a new brother or sister. I am hoping that removal will cause a miscarriage -- and then I am going to start looking at permanent options. Does anyone know anything about the Ensure method, where they basically put little road blocks into the fallopian tubes? It's attractive because it doesn't require invasive surgery, but after this experience, I am wary of things being implanted.

Angela - I hope that everything is ok. Im really nervous, the bf is bring the test over today. My mom thinks its useless, but I would rather take one and have the results to tell the doctor then call and say... "I might be pregnant, no I havent taken a home pregnancy test" just for him to tell me to take one. This way I have the results BEFORE I call. Although Ive heard the HPT are inaccurate because of the horomone the IUD releases. Anyone know anything about this? I dont know, honestly what I would do. Im SO against anything that could abort the baby, I would want to try anything and everything to keep it, but, God, just so much to think about. Well, goes to show, nothing is a 100% huh? lol. God bless ladies.

Holly - August 28

Angie the hpt are somewhat accurate I think it just depends.. Mine said negative and went to the doctor a few days later and it was positive. So its always good to go to the doctor and force yourself in there lol.. because I know how it is calling them..

things have gotten worse. Dh was supposed to go with me, he failed to tell he had mandatory training on monday morning. he realised this yesterday. he tried to get out of it but his Lt. told him "no" even though they know I have a potentiall serious health issue. I'd have to be in the ER bleeding to death before they'd let him out of training, thats the military for you. I can try to bump my appt to monday afternoon or tues morning. I just don't need any added stress. I was supposed to start my period today but so far nothing is happening. I'm not even bleeding. I was up last night vomiting every few hours. I was so sick. i have no idea if it's from the stress or something else. we're also working on buying a house so my stress level is really high right now. Angie- I took a HPT and it was negative, then a few days later I had one at the docs office and it was negative. theres still the chance that if I am pg then I wasn't far enough along to test positive yet. Anyway thanks for all of your support. I'll let you know when I know something more. I'm just trying to prepare my self in case this is serious or nothing major at all. either way I want the IUD out now!

Hey, I found some information sent to me via another site when I asked anonymously a question about birth control methods. And Amy, it doesn't say anything about Ensure. Of course, I noticed that the info is dated '97, so maybe Ensure is a newer method than what they had then. I've never heard of it until you mentioned it in your response. Check it out. http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/1997/conceptbl.html

Angie - August 28

I was unable to take the test today, bf forgot to grab it (or was just to squeamish to buy it) lol. Anywho, I stopped bleeding all together this morning, and it was clear again. Tonight, I find almost like a "spurt" of blood.... here we go again. I also checked my strings, they are intact, a little shorter then they used to be, but there. I will be on the phone tomorrow morning with the doctors office trying to get an appointment ASAP, bf is bringing the test for sure tomorrow night.... I will keep everyone post. Thanks for the support, this one of the hardest things Ive had to go through. Either way, Im getting the IUD out and if I have to I will just use the pill. Rather end up pregnant on the pill and the baby be safe, then take the same risk of being pregnant on the Mirena with all these complications. God bless.

Val - August 29

I'm allergic to every kind of hormonal birth control I've tried...the patch, the pill, the ring...even allergic to latex. My doctor has been suggesting an IUD as a last resort, even though I've never had a child before. I was hoping somene who's had experience with it could tell me a little bit about the risks that go along with it....especially the risk of infertility. I definately want kids in the future. I'm only 17 now though, and I would like to wait a few years, but my options are running pretty low.

Hi Shannon, I'm 25wks pg with mirena IUD in, dr tried to remove it but it was too far up to be removed & I didn't want to risk losing the baby I'm also nursing, live in Australia,I gave up work because I'm constantly tired & get abdominal pain constantly a few times a day sometimes I can't move off the bed, it makes it hard when I have 4 other kids to look after.I had an ultrasound at 11wks & 18wks, 1st u/s Iud was above the baby, 2nd u/s it is at the side hopefully it won't move.My obst thinks it will come out in the placenta, I haven't bled since I was about 8wks, though I've had severe pain, dizziness, sweating, flu symtoms etc but hosp & gp said its hormones from pg & unless your bleeding just rest. My pg being treated as a normal one too, I just hope nothing goes wrong. Good luck to everyone if anyone wants to talk my email is daveandcharma@aapt.net.au I'll keep posting here though.

Charmane I am glad to hear everything is going good you have made past a milestone really because alot of women don't get that far. I wish all the luck too you. Val- As you can see on this board all of the comments would be really scary to you, but they are true and happen to alot of women not only pregnancy but infections, cyst and other medical problems can be caused by the iud. I am not going to tell you to go get it nor am I going to tell you not. I just urge you to think and research the iud before you get it. Also weigh out the possibilty of you contracting a infection or a cyst is it really worth it? I hope all goes well for you and please let us know what happens. Godd luck
