I am shocked to read everything that I have read here today. I have three children and we opted for the IUD back in September 06. I thought that it was supposed to 'prevent' you from getting pregnant. Well, life had been busy and the last two days I have been drinking alot of chocolate milk - something I crave when I am pregnant, I even said to my husband two nights ago that I only drink this stuff when I am pregnant. It didn't dawn on my until yesterday though that I am almost 3 weeks late. Took a home preg test today and yes I am infact expecting baby number 4. Now I am certainly more concerned about the health and well being of this unborn child. I am scared todeath. I don't want to lose this baby, I pray that there are no defects but heck, I am not even on folic acid as I wasn't planning a pregnancy. With the other three we planned them so I was on folic acid when I was supposed to be. Of course, this all happens on the today, the Friday of a long weekend, so my doctor isn't in until Tuesday. I don't want to wait that long to get some answers but I clearly don't have another choice here. I am praying that everything is going to be okay.

Hi! I have an 18 yr old daughter who just had a baby boy 4monthes ago, she had a high risk pregnancy with him so the Mirena IUD seemed to be the perfect solution because the DR. said no more babies for at least 5 years. We went to the local health deptment were a Nurse Prac. inserted the IUD after bleeding the whole first month it was time to have it checked will it was coming out. Now after being on the pill for one month my daughter feels preg. two false preg tests have not convienced me she is not preg. both were urine test and we have figured it up and they were both done 4 and then 11 days after the act. And now she tells me a few days before she had the IUD out they used a condom and it broke in pieces calling tomorrow to get blood tests or ultrsound to know for sure because she is taking birth control now... love the 4 month old will love another but not sure if Nana can take the stress of another baby in the house...

Heather F~
It changed my login name. But I am Sophie. So I posted on May 5th and no I wasn't pregnant. For me it was the hormone in the IUD - just like the pill did to me. Totally felt pregnant, but wasn't. The side effects have since calmed down, thank goodness.

Wow, I really thought I was crazy until I found this website. I have a Mirena too but have been feeling some symptoms of pregnancy for months now (I have 2 children). I took at least 6 HPTs over several months now and all have been negative. I have also had very light spotting when my period would normally come. But I swear that I feel fetal movement and my belly/b___sts are getting bigger. I thought for sure I was losing my mind (and by now my husband is so certain that I am insane I can't even bring it up anymore), but now I am really wondering after reading about all of these experiences. I read on this page that a number of people have had several negative HPTs and then found out they were pregnant. Does anyone know why HPTs would come back negative with the Mirena? The other hitch is that I live in sub-saharan Africa where I think the quality of HPT is questionable.....Advice anyone?

kzeribi~ I believe that my neg HPTS are correct, but I too am having the same symptoms as you. I've put on 2kg and I feel fetal-like movements. I think thats just my intestines though, because I had the same feeling going on after the birth of both my sons. I'm pretty certain that its the progesterone in the IUD causing all the problems. Having said that sometimes I feel quite a jab and can almost swear up & down that I'm pregnant!

removing the uid can cause you to miscarry. it would be safer for you to leave it where it is. in england it is policy to leave it in. because removing it can cause miscarriage, or can introduce infections during pregnancy. it shouldnt cause any damage to your baby to leave it in. there are obviously rare cases where it does, but i would definately say leave it where it is

So wow I typically don't sign on to these thiings, but I'm really glad I found it and now I dont feel as crazy. I've had my IUD in for over a year and I haven't had any problems ( until March). That was the last time I got my period. I feel pregnant, I'v e taken two pregnancy tests and both have been negative. I have been having headaches, dizziness, feeling tired, and naucious every so often. So I didn't think I was pregnant, I really thought I was crazy!! The problem with me is that I was diagnosed with papillary cancer ( thyroid cancer) and I'm not really mentally done with that and now I'm worried about being pregnant. we would certainly welcome a fourth child but I just wish it was under better circ_mstances. Mainly being able to plan. If anyone has any Suggestions please feel free to share.

Like most of the woman on hear, I'm having the same problems, the cramping and the bloating are driving me nuts! I have had the IUD for two years now, and I haven't had a "real" period since.
I finally made an appointment with my ob/gyn, and I'm scheduled to have it removed at the end of July. Should I have it removed? It's prevented pregnancy so far, but the syntoms are bother, it seems like every week I think I'm pregnant!

Update on me: I've felt really dizzy for the last week on top of all my other symptoms. So I have decided to have my IUD removed. Of course I thought I'd better do another HPT to make sure and it looks as though there is a possible faint line. I know probably an evap line, except I swear I saw it as the dye moved along the test. Plus it was my mid-afternoon pee. So I'll try again either in the morning or in a couple of days....

I wrote on here in May about my experience with the IUD.....After having many tests done I can say that I feel 100% better and fine now. My family thought I was losing my mind and I was starting to think maybe I was crazy but I know it HAD to be from the hormones in the IUD b/c I feel like a different person. I didn't even realize how much I had changed until it was out. I think if you have found this site then maybe you are like all the other women on here and have an adverse reaction to the IUD. Listen to your body and go with what you know is right for you. My doctors blew me off, my family quit listening to me and I almost gave up on myself but I feel normal again after taking the IUD out. Hope you all find what you need and I hope you don't have to go through all that so many others have.

mlopez- How are you doing? I am in the same boat. I went in after having lots of bleeding w/mirena to get it removed and found out I was 8 weeks pregnant. The mirena is still in place. Dr's can't remove it due to it's position and now every day is filled with anxiety because I fear so much for the baby's health...there are not enough statistics on what effects the mirena can have on babies. I feel that they should pull it off the market. I don't think a lot of people know all the downsides to this product when it fails. I hope that everything is going well for you. I am now exactly 20 weeks today. I am relieved to have made it this far, but I know there's still a long haul ahead...Please keepin touch on how you're doing..I will do the same....

Hello all. I was so relieved to find this string of posts. I am a 35 year-old mother of five. When my hsuband and I had our last child, I decided to go for the copper IUD after using the pill. The pill was giving me awful headaches and I started forgetting to take them and that is dangerous because my husband and I are very fertile. I got my copper IUD in May of 2004 and was never happier. I was free!!! Although my periods were a little heavier and longer, I felt that it was a fair trade for no maintenance. Well on May 28th 2007, I had my cycle and it lasted until June 5th - a little long, but I had been having problems with cycsts and longer cycles, so I blew it off. Then on June 10th I started spotting. Not very much, but enough to see on a tissue when going to the restroom. The next night I had experienced some awful cramping. I called my Dr. and she suggested that I watch my symptoms (cramping & spotting) and left it to me if i wanted to come in the ER or not. Well I made an appointment and couldn't be seen for two days. I went in on Friday June 15th and opted to get a preg test - just to rule it out (thinking I had a ruptured ovarian cyst), and the Dr. came back and said I was pregnant!!!!! My husband and I were in disbelief. The Dr. removed the IUD immediately and sent me for an ultrasound. They didn't see anything on the ultrasound so I doubted the accuracy of what the Dr told me about being preg. I bought a HPT and sure enough, I am preg but not sure if I am miscarrying. I am going back to the Dr today Monday June 18th for bloodwork to see of the pregnancy is progressing. I am so scared and nervous. I have never miscarried. I have always had wonderful pregnancies and although I thought I was finished having children, my husband and I have gotten comfortable "dreaming" about our little miracle that could be on the way. I have been praying that me and this baby make it ok, and I will be heartbroken if I am truly miscarrying. I am not sure where I will go from here with BC short of a hysterectomy! Wish me luck!

Well I hope its o.k. for a man to join this conversation. I saw no sign otherwise.
My wife has had an IUD for two years (brand I dont know) and ythis morning she tested positive on an EPT. She turns 40 in just a few days and I am very worried for her welfare and our childs.
This thread is amazing that this many IUD pregnancies exist. She goes to the doctor tomorrow and we pray that the baby is in the uterus not the falopian tubes. At her age this turns out to be a high risk pregnancy and we have been blessed with two wonderful children.
First of all from a husbands and a fathers perspective I am afraid for her and the child. I am happy to find this site and will refer my wife here in time. The shock of this is a lot at the moment and there are so many questions left to be answered.
Thank you ladies for the comments and I wish each of you what I wish for my own family.
Take care
Michael

Just an update.....
I really don't know too muh more than what I knew last week. Still nothing on the ultrasound and my HCG levels are now at 658 which would make me 2 weeks (gestational). *sigh* This is so nervewracking. On dr. tells me it's too early to tell, while another dr says the preg is not viable and tells me he can give me a drug to "terminate" the pregnancy. My cycle is due next week, and if it will make things any easier, I welcome it!
I am so tired of conflicting results. One ultrasound - we see something, two days later, we don't. Bloodt ests every other day - and they keep using the same vein! *sigh*
(sorry - just venting) Ladies, stay strong and fight for those babies!

Hi! I am a 24 yr old single mother of 2 going through a divorce. My daughter's father (who lives in Maine) and I recently got back together. (My son's father whom I am getting the divorce from is in jail.) I got the Mirena IUD put in last summer. My doctor told me that it was 99.9% effective and that it was the best option for me since I couldnt get my tubes tied. I have been getting my period every 2 weeks for 2 weeks at a time (very light) since I got it put in. Now, I have not had it in 7 weeks! (that just happens to be the last time I saw my boyfriend.) I am freaking out! I have 2 kids already and he has our daughter here in CT and 2 other kids in Maine (1 due to be born next month) and I cannot afford another child, much less raise 3 kids myself! I talked to my doctor today and they told me that it isnt any concern since I have the IUD, and I took a home test (came up negative...but with very faint lines). But after reading all of the postings on here, I am still very worried! Has anyone else just stopped getting their period after a year? Is it normal? My doctor told me that at some point in the first 6 months my period might stop, but its been a year! I thought it would be great to not have my period when I first got the IUD put in, but now it's worrying me! I want to get it out, but my doctor doesnt think it's a good idea and they dont want to see me for at least another week. I want it out! Especially since I just read on another site that it can cause excema (I got excema/psoriasis right after stopping the birth control pill and switching to the IUD) and increased acne (which I already had a problem with). Has anyone else gotten psoriasis or excema from this? And any advice on the pregnancy thing? Should I wait and take another test? Any advice is more than welcome! Thanks!
