IUD Pregnancy

TINA - September 1

SIX WEEKS AFTER HAVING MY FIRST CHILD IN 2003, MY OBGYN PLACED AN IUD IN MY UTERUS. THE THING WORKED GREAT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 3 2004. I HAD BEEN NAUSED FOR A WEEK AND WOMEN AT WORK SUGGESTED THAT I TAKE A PREGNANCY TEST. I THOUGHT THEY WERE CRAZY. I HAD NOT HAD MY PERIOD THE MONTH BEFORE, BUT I WAS NOT WORRIED. MY OBYGN SAID THIS WAS SOMETIMES NORMAL FOR THOSE WITH IUDS TO QUIT HAVING THEIR PERIODS. I WAS SIX WEEKS PREG. AT MY FIRST DR VISIT THEY THOUGHT THEY SAW MY IUD ON ULTRASOUND. SO I WENT FOR A LEVEL 2 ULTRASOUND WHEN I WAS 18 WKS. THE IUD WAS NOT FOUND. MY OB SAID THAT IT MOST LIKELY CAME OUT. AFTER GIVING BIRTH TO A FULL TERM BABY BOY WHO WAS COMPLETELY HEALTHY AND NO COMPLICATIONS, MY OB SAID THERE WAS NO SIGN OF THE IUD IN MY PLECENTA. REMEMBER MY IUD WAS PLACED IN MARCH 2003 AND MY SON WAS BORN IN APRIL 2005. LAST YEAR I WENT TO MY FAMILY PHYSICIAN WITH RIGHT SIDED PAIN, SHE ORDERD ME A CT SCAN TO LOOK FOR RENAL STONES. I WORK AT THE HOSPITAL IN RADIOLOGY WHERE I HAD THE SCAN. NO RIGHT SIDED STONE WAS FOUND, HAD A SMALL ONE IN THE LEFT. WHILE SCANNING DOWN THROUGH THE ABDOMEN, THE TECH ASK IF I WAS POSITIVE I HAD NEVER HAD SURGICAL CLIPS. OF COURSE, I HAD NEVER HAD SURGERY. THEN SHE SAYS- OH MY GOD, TINA I JUST FOUND YOUR IUD. TALK ABOUT SHOCKED! I WENT AND TALKED WITH OUR RADIOLOGIST WHO CALLED MY OBGYN. MY IUD WAS OUTSIDE OF THE UTERUS, BETWEEN BY ABDOMINAL MUSCLES AND INTESTINES. I ALWAYS SAID HE WAS MY MIRACLE BABY. THE RADIOLOGIST SAID -NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. I CAN THINK OF A DOZEN THINGS THAT COULD HAVE AND SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO YOU-GOD WAS DEFFINETLY WATCHING OVER ME. HE, ASWELL, AS THE OTHER DOCTORS WERE SHOCKED. MY BODY HAD NOT TRIED TO REJECT THE IUD AND THERE WAS NO SIGNS OF INFECTION. ON JAN. 3, 2007, MY IUD WAS FINALLY REMOVED THROUGH MY BELLY BUTTON, 4 YRS AFTER IT WAS PUT IN AND ALMOST 2 YRS AFTER MY SON WAS BORN. LATER I FOUND OUT FROM THE OBGYN THAT IT WAS NOT WHERE THE CT SAID IT WAS-HE FOUND IT UNDER MY LEFT RIBCAGE. APPARENTLY IT HAD BEEN FLOATING AROUND THE WHOLE TIME. MY BODY ACCEPTED IT. OF COURSE WE DON'T KNOW AT WHAT POINT IT CAME THROUGH THE UTERUS, BUT IT IS BELIEVED THAT MY SON PUSHED IT THROUGH AS HE CONTINUED TO GROW IN MY UTERUS. WE BOTH ARE TRUELY BLESSED AND THIS IS TESTIMONY THAT GOD WAS WATCHING OVER THE BOTH OF US.

Tweetle- we don't need religous opinions here, an IUD is not killing a baby, ok? this is for information, not weird beliefs. Im sure none of us with an IUD appreciate you telling us we are killing millions of babies, so go find some evangelacist website. Alright girls, as for the IUD and pregnancy, I have had an IUD since May, I concieved and miscarried promptly in July. It is painful....I don't like the fact that the 2nd function of the IUD is to not let the embryo implant, if you already know you are preg than that is difficult. I think I am preg again and I even had a psychic tell me I will get preg in Sept. with a boy. Well it is sept. now and I feel a little weird and had implantation bleeding, she also told me she had a feeling my IUD wasn't in place and I need to get it checked. I am so paranoid about getting preg I have already had my IUD checked twice by my OBGYN,but it was a while ago. My strings feel really low...anyone experienced that? I couldnt' feel my strings for a couple months cuz they were tied up in my utereus, the other day I checked and they were almost at the bottom of my v____al ca___l...want to hear from you all, good luck with everything. To anyone that is preg with an IUD......positive thinking...and I wish you the best, love, Lizzy

I got my IUD put in july 2006 at my 6 week checkup from having my 4th son. A couple of weeks ago I started to "feel" pregnant. I was really tired and feeling nausious. I got online and found this website and started to read everyone's questions, and I freaked out. I had no idea that the sperm was still reaching the egg every month if you were ovulating. I thought it was stopped before reaching the egg. So, I took a pregnancy test and it came up negative. After that my husband and I decided to have the IUD taken out. So, I had it taken out last Wednesday. And now I am feeling heartburn. I only have heartburn when I am pregnant. I was on the pill and had heartburn and took a test and that was when I found out I was pregnant with my last son. So, I don't know if I should go and take another test. Everyone just keeps saying how all of theirs are coming up negative. I'm thinking maybe I should just make an appointment to have a blood test done. Has anyone else had the iud taken out and still felt pregnant. Please help!!!!!!!!!!

I got my IUD in Feb 07 and had a great deal of pain with it in the first month or so after the implantation. I also had a steady period for about the first four months and have had a fairly regular yet sometimes heavy cycle for the past few months. In the most recent weeks however I began to notice a few changes. I had two periods in the month of august a week apart but both seemed to be completely seperate from the other. The first was heavier than normal and the second much lighter. I also began feeling sick in the past two weeks, often waking up in the morning with a nauseating feeling and even dry heaving a few times. I have also had alot of what is either hearburn or acid reflux in the past week. This seems to be una__sociated with my diet and I can not point out any other cause for it. I also have experienced abdominal pain and lower back pain. I have been hungrier than normal.......The same kind of hungar I had with my daughter who is now 5. I just took a HPT and it was negative but I am now concerned after reading these posts that it may not be an accurate way to determine pregnancy. If I am pregnate I want a healthy baby and I hate to think that this thing might jeprodize that. If any of you have any advice please let me know! I appreciate anything you have to offer.....I would call my doctor but the last time I did that to ask her why I was stilll having discomfort a month after implantation she acted as if I was speaking a forign language and I decided not to overreact in the future! Aren't doctors just the best!!!!!!!!!!! NOT!

All 4 baby - September 24

Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to log on and share their experiences and concerns!! I've had the copper IUD since Feb. 02 and just found out three days ago that I'm ten weeks pregnant. The IUD is above the amneonic sack. The Dr. I visited on Friday said he'd just as soon leave it in until delivery however a second opinion today said he'd attempt removal if I were his patient. EEEK! Our boys are 11 and 13 and were sooo excited to have another chance but the risks are SCARRY!!! There are many stories pertaining to the first few months of pregnancy however can anyone share their after delivery story? If you chose to leave the IUD in place what happened after the baby is delivered? Where did the IUD implant itself and was surgery necessary? Someone said it may adhere itself to the placenta... Thanks for your help!!

Hey... Umm I need some help or advice. I have the Marina also. I got it in Feb of this year and for the past week I have had pain and the last few days a bloated feeling. I also have had an upset stomach and headache. I have been spotting pretty heavy but I am not convinced that Im not based soley on that... I tried to buy a test but the store closed 3 mins b4 I got there and I dont have a car, nothing else in walking distance. I really dont want another baby, I just ended a relationship and became s_xually active (with one guy) in the past 2 months and Im terrified that if I am, It could be my exes baby... I am 19 and have a 4yr old and a 10 month old... could these be symptoms? Please pray for me that I am not, I do not believe in abortion so I would have to see it through and I am not in a good place for that.. any help would be great. thanks...

wow I can't believe this thread has been going for over 2 years! I thought I had the best BC in the world and now I am not so confident in it. I do not really think I am pregnant, I am just having some odd symptoms so I thought I would google it since I have the Minera IUD and I found this! I wanted to ask if anyone else's husbands/ partners ever say they can feel the IUD during intercorse and that it is pokey? My husband feels it all the time and I had it checked after he kept saying this and my Dr. said it was fine. I did think I was pregnant on it once and yes my Dr thought I was crazy, I did a blood test and it was neg. Some of you are saying that you still have periods, mine have for the most part stopped, or lightened def. I had one this month but that is the first in a while, but I never keep track of mine cause they have been off since I had my daughter in NOv 05 due to switching diff forms of BC, I have had the IUD for a little over 1 year now. I will let you know if I am pregnant although I think it is a yeast infec or something, but any other partners feeling it during intercourse?

mamaof2 - September 25

Lovinlife - they could be symptoms of a million things. I spot all the time, BC does that to some women, but you need to test to rea__sure yourself. Go to your DR for 100% a__surance and if you really think you can't support another baby, adoption is always out there. I know it would be the hardest thing for any mother to do, but wouldn't you rather that baby have the best life possible? But if you are and you think you can make it through, then you go girl. Just know that there are other options out there and that you are not alone, even if the lame a__s guy that got you preggers isn't there for you, that is his problem, he will get what is coming to him. Join a support group, file for child support, whatever you have to do, but just do what is best for the baby, they will thank you someday :) Best of luck!

Lovinlife - September 25

Thanks. Im trying my best to get a test. I will def come back and update. I didnt even notice at first how long ago the first post was, thats crazy. I just signed up after searching about pregnancy and an IUD and I am glad I found it. I dont think I could bear adoption.. I WOULD NEVER abort a baby... also I pray it would not be an ectopic... I dont know how I would get through that... Ill be back to update!!! thanks

have the Mirena since dec 06 husband always said he felt like something was poking him lately since i had my pap in june 07 and the np couldnt find my strings he said he dont feel it

Lovinlife - September 26

Took a test. it was neg... Im going to test every week for a few weeks to make sure.. I still have really strange symptoms but I guess all I can do is wait or go to the doctor.

mamaof2 - September 26

well good for you. You could just be feeling ovulation take place, some women feel it and some don't, I do every once in a while. It's like a bad period, but no period. so maybe that is it. but if your symptons last longer then 2 wks I would go to the DR or planned parenthood. well good luck, take care, keep me posted!:)

robs - October 10

I have read several of your responses and now I am utterly in shock. The 1st IUD I had was the paraguard in 1999, I had no complications other than heavy bleeding and severe cramping. Then I had that removed it in 2005 and had the Mirena inserted at the beginning of this year. Ive had irregular periods ever since.. some even lasting 2 weeks.. but very light bleeding none the less. My boyfriend said he off and on "feels" the strings.. I then had my doc cut the strings a bit shorter.. he said he has felt them after the doc has shortened them, but hasnt complained lately. The reason I am writing this is because I think I may be pregnant, not only that, my boyfriend thinks so too. I have had a "feeling" with nausea in the past and I took a test and it was negative. Now Im having the same symptom along with fatigue, bloating, gas, heartburn, and feeling hungrier than normal. I also am experiencing abdominal pain, that started sunday night. This...however... isnt uncommon... I been through several ultrasounds to find out why I am having this pain and the doc said I have cysts on my ovaries..and the pain is caused by them rupturing. Ive never had experienced this before the Mirena and the doc said the Mirena can be a__sociated with fibroid cysts. But the pain that started Sunday is definitely different than the pain a__sociated with the cysts...Anyway, the only thing Im worried about is taking a test and it showing negative but actually being pregnant. (in regards to previous posts stating they had to get blood work to confirm pregnancy). So .. I do have an appointment on the 1st for another ultrasound, but I wonder if I should wait that long to see the doc?

Hi! I'm new here and I happen to look up pregnancy with IUD"S and came across this site. This is very scary! I've been telling everyone how "great" the mirena IUD is and now after reading all of these story's, I'm scared out of my mind becasue I'm very fertile and I'm not sure if the symptoms that I'm having can be related to being pregnant. I have the mirena. This is my second one. My first one was so low in my uterus that they had to take it out. Then I got this one put in about 3 months after(which was May of '06). I had my period about 2 and a half weeks ago and the thing with that is since I've been on the IUD my periods are always irregular and all of the sudden my b___bs are really sore and they don't ever get sore with my period, only when I'm pregnant, then I've been having this pain "down below" and it feels like really bad cramps and it feel like somthing is coming out of me and I never had this type of pain before. I work at an Ob/Gyn office and I was talking to one of the nurses and she said how one of our patients is pregnant and she has an IUD and I thought that can't be true and now I'm kind of concerned. I didn't want to mention it to one of my doctors because I'm sure that they will tell me that its nothing and I know my body. i didn't want to jump to conclusions, but now I'm very concerned. If anybody has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks

I thought I was pregnant too. I had all the symptoms just like everyone else, so I went to the trusty internet to see what I could find, and i found this site. Now, I don't doubt that many many people HAVE gotten pregnant with the IUD in. But I would check this site many times a day to see who else was pregnant, because I was convinced 'If all those women are pregnant, than surely I am also!'. Even when common sense told me it might just be in my head, I still would check here constantly, as if someone would post the answer to my problem. I just want to warn everyone to use this site carefully. Take the test if you are not sure; or go to the doctor. But do something other than just checking this site - you will feel better when you finally do. Take it from my experience. :)
