IUD Pregnancy

Calleiah, Thank you for the information. I did go in and was advised to get the IUD out ASAP. I was informed of the risk of miscarriage but also advised that it was something I had to consider (miscarriage at 6 weeks versus miscarriage or pregnancy difficulties in the second or third trimester). I decided to have it taken out that same day. It was removed and there was no bleeding, so they said that is a very good sign. I am waiting for an appointment with a high risk OB. Should be in the next 2-3 weeks to do an ultrasound. I will keep you posted. Thanks again. :)

I am having similar issues. I had my IUD inserted last year. I have not felt the string since shortly after having it inserted. Last week I had brown spotting which I a__sumed was my "normal" cycle. Yesterday I had bright pink spotting. I called the Dr. and they are suggesting that I come in. In addition, my b___sts have been tender. Just wanted some input... I also have a bladder infection but the nurse says it is unrelated to the pink spotting.

JLP1972 you shouldn't be able to necessarily feel the strings, so I wouldn't be too concerned about that. You should have them checked at least yearly to be sure the positioning of the IUD is correct. My "IUD story" began with a UTI (bladder infection). My last period was much lighter than usual (but more than the brown spotting you spoke of). My b___sts were also tender. I am 8 weeks pregnant (happened while IUD was in place - for 3 years). The pink spotting indicates active bleeding of some sort (which could mean nothing or could mean something that needs to be checked). There are so many variables depending on your usual cycles, superficial bleeding (on the surface versus from an internal source), etc. It is something that would need to be visually checked by your doctor to ensure nothing is going on. If you are pregnant the general advice is to get the IUD out ASAP before you get too far along and it can't be removed. Please keep us updated on your appointment! :)

I have had the Mirena since August 30, 2007. I got it 8 weeks after my 6th child was born. I have not had any problems with it till about 3 weeks ago. I started feeling pregnant and I swear I am feeling fetal movement. At first I pa__sed it off as gas. But then I noticed it at the same times every day in the same spot. It is increasing in occurrence and I my pants have got tight and I have gained 5 pounds in the past month. The other night I was sitting at the computer leaning over and had tight jeans on and I really felt it. After having 6 kids one would think I would know what fetal movement feels like! I took a HPT and it was negative. I've been feeling kind of crampy and bloated too. I don't have a period so I have no idea! I'm kind of freaking out about this! I'm a full time nursing student trying to get my degree done with 6 kids already. One more would be a blessing I just wish it would wait till I'm done with school! I think Monday I'm going to call my midwife!

I have had the Mirena for 4 years and thought it was wonderful.... no pain, no weight gain, no cramps, minimal very light short periods.... until recently... started getting cramps in July and left sided ovarian type pains, but they calmed down. I have had very bad cramps for the last few weeks and now am at the point of feeling sick through the intensity of the pains and it is hard to even walk. It's the middle of the night here in the UK and I have read this whole thread and it's just dawned on me from everything I have read that i could be pregnant - it never crossed my mind! When I worked it out, my last 'period' (usually only v light and lasts 2 days) was the start of July, before the bad cramping started. I am going to the doctors tomorrow morning, although have been debating whether to go to hospital tonight due to the severity of the pain. I wonder if it could be trying to expel itself, or it could be an ovarian cyst or ectopic, or I could actually be pregnant. I didn't know having a strange taste in your mouth could be a symptom of pregnancy, well I have that, am shattered and feel sick, plus my skin has gone spotty. Having a minor panic now, but will check back with an update. Thanks to all who have posted, I have learned so much!!!

I'm just wondering if anyone got neg hpt's when you were actually pregnant while you had the mirena in place? I've had mine now for just about two years... didn't have a period for six months then had a normal one and now i'm having all the preggy symptoms. Just looking for some advice... Should I make an appointment and have a blood test done or what?

Ok, do this is really scaring me. I have been on the IUD for about 5 months now. Since I have been on the IUD I have spotted non stop. About a month ago, my boyfriend and I decided to take our relationship further. Before being with him, I hadn't been with anyone for over a year. I have been about 3 weeks late on my period and I havent had any spotting. I have had some nausia for the past week I have been peeing all the time. I took a home pregnancy test last week and it came back negative. I took another 3 days ago and still negative. Have any of you experienced this with the mirena? I go to the doc on Tuesday but Im trying to find out if anyone has been in my situation. Any info will help.

Holy c___p I cannot believe all these stories of pregnancy with the IUD. I've had the Mirena since February 08 and have battled long periods and weird cycles since. I got it when my daughter was 6 weeks old and I'm in no hurry to have another, my daughter has a heart defect and I'm terrified of having another baby with a defect. Anyways, these last couple months my cycles have been very short, like 2-3 weeks. I think my last AF was August 19th or so, I really should have wrote it down. Last Wed or Thurs I had some abdominal and leg cramping very similar to what I get when I get AF, and some pink spotting once and some brown spotting once. I never ever have spotting. It was weird, and I've had nothing since. Today I am feeling queasy. I highly doubt I am pregnant, but these responses are overwhelming! It makes a girl wonder. I have a doctor's appt on Friday because I need one anyways, guess I will find out then.

okay so i've had mirena in since April of 07', and recently i've been having "the symptoms"... but i suppose was just trying to block them out.... last night my step-mom said jokiningly, "hey maybe your pregnant!" and i said "NO WAY. I have an IUD."..... welll researching, and reading all of these crazy posts today- wow, i had no idea you could get pregnant with one in... and i have pelvic tenderness (as i did with my first), sore b___sts, a constant weird metal taste, moody, etc.... and i dno how far along i really am because i haven't kept very good track of my periods because of how crazy they've been with this thing in. i've noticed a lot of people declined to update with what eventually happened... i promise i will post back and let everyone know.. i am really scared though, i don't want this baby to be affected by the thing.. i just pray to the Lord that things go okay for me, and for everyone on this posting... god bless.

Hi everyone i have been looking up a lot of stuff about iud and pregnancy, I am 18 and had the iud put in 3 years ago and i have my periods almost every month and had one last month but for the past couple weeks i have had a lot pregnancy symptoms and i didn't notice til my boyfriend pointed them out. my b___st have been really sore and i have had headaches almost everyday all day. I also seem to always be in the bathroom and eating way more than usual. I just feel week and tired all the time. I didn't even think about pregnancy because i thought it was impossible on the iud. I have also never been pregnant before so i didn't know what too look for. I'm not ready for a baby and don't know what i should do or even where to start. Reading all this has me really worried. Can anyone give me advice? Please and Thank You!

I went to the doctor almost 3 weeks ago to have the strings on my IUD checked. I got it put in in Sept. of 07, after my son was born. She couldn't find the strings, so they sent me to get an ultrasound. While they were doing that they found that my IUD was touching the bottom of my cervix and would need removed. They also found a cyst that "echoes", which, from what they say, is a bad thing. So I went back in to have it removed, but she couldn't because there weren't any strings to pull on. About a week and a half later I got cramping, but knew I was not going to start my period, that's just not the way it felt. Then about 2 days ago I started getting headaches and stomachaches, as well as b___st tenderness. I'm not sure if my hormones are raging because the IUD is not in place, if the cyst has anything to do with it, or if I'M pregnant?!?

Natasha-S - September 21

Well, a quick update.... my HPT came back negative, so did the one at the GP. After poking and prodding she suspects there is a large cyst on each ovary and the Mirena has dislodged, although she wouldn't rule out pregnancy. Have been referred to a gynae urgently for investigation. Anyone who is wondering what's going on with their IUD please get yourself checked out. I took a few pages from this forum printed off with me and the doc was gobsmacked so many people were pregnant with the IUD, and she said she has only seen one in her career. Lets hope I'm not the second!!
