Hi, everyone. This is my first visit here. Glad I found this place. I am terrified. I have a miscarriage the first week of June. I opted not to have d/c. lmp was July 7th. We found out around the 10th of August with hpt that we were pregnant again. Terrified! I went to the doc on the 15th and had it confirmed at 5 wks 4days. They scheduled an u/s the next day because of the first m/c. During the u/s she saw NOTHING. I had blood work done that day and am scheduled to see the doctor on Monday. I thought they'd do more blood work on Friday, but they said they didn't need it done since they did the ultrasound.??? How will they know if the numbers are doubling??? Didn't make sense to me. I am on PINS! I have not told anyone except my husband and my boss(because I needed permission to leave work early for my appointment) about the pregnancy. I just don't know how to stop thinking or worrying about it. When she said she saw NOTHING in my uterus I just felt like it was happening all over again. She said it just might be too early. I have not had any bleeding and just little twinges of cramping on and off. My b___sts were sore but now are not. What does all of this mean??

Well, I don't have an answer. I have had a miscarriage before and it killed me. I am pregnant again and am thrilled, but again my hcg levels are low, like last time. They are higher than yours, but still. The threat is still there and it scares me. I hope all goes well.

Hi CC ... What type of ultrasound did you have done ? If the ultrasound was done at 5 wks and 5 dys, they are not likely to find anything more than a gestational sac at most. And thats pretty early even. There are different methods of performing and ultrasound. If performed trans-v____ally it is more sensative. However abdominally at 5 wks and 5 dys, (although possible..) you have little chance of locating the pregnancy in utero. Because of the rapid rate the early pregnancy progresses it has been my professional and personal experience that early ultrasounds are best performed trans-v____ally at approx. 6 - 6.5 weeks . To locate the gestational sac and rule out ectopic pregnancy. Your doctor will probably repeat your ultrasound and re-check your hcg levels. I would not lose hope just yet, as it is very early in your pregnancy.
And all pregnancies progress differently. I will think good thoughts for you and please keep me posted on how things turn out.

Thanks, Tracy. I had the transabdominal u/s. Went back to the doc today. HCG 939 so she said the pregnancy might not be as far along as they originally thought and things look good if that is the case. Did more blood work and she put me on Progestrone (sp) because she said my level was average but on the low end of average. I will go back in 2weeks for another u/s. I have been having lower back pains and I don't know if it's because I'm back at school teaching-bending over students' desks or if it's related to the pregnancy. The pain is across my entire lower back near my tailbone. Still no bleeding very little cramping just twinges here and ther. Anyone experiencing that now or maybe experienced it in the past?

Hello Again CC,
I am glad to hear the news. Cramping is completely normal in early pregnancy. As long as it is not accompanied by bleeding. I had days that my lower back hurt so bad that I thought I just could not bare another second. But please contact your pract_tioner immediatley if you begin bleeding. Although I can only offer you general information for legallity reasons, I can give you my personal opinion. Your hcg levels look good. And the progestrone can be quite effective in preventing pregnancy loss. I myself was 9 wks. and doctor a__sured me that I was going to misscarry. However, I insisted that he prescribe some type of prog. I am now 26 wks. preg. seeing a new doc after 8 years with my last one. Please keep me posted on how things turn out for you and baby. Feel free to email me directly at shygirl95927@yahoo.com.
Good luck !

Tracy, I will definitely keep you posted. After having a m/c in my last pregnancy, I am trying not to get my hopes up too high-which is hard to do. I'm even afraid to be intimate with my husband even though I have been to told that it should not cause problems. I'm just totally paranoid about everything. Hope all is going well with you. Is this your first pregnancy?

No this is my 11th. pregnancy, but only my fourth child. So you can see how I can relate to your concerns about you pregnancy. M/C is very hard to deal with, as most of us usually feel like we have fail somehow. It took me a long time to get over my experiences, most because they kept re-occuring. I think that's why I chose to be in the medical feild so that i could understand it more. The prog. benefits has mixed reviews with some doctor's. But I strongly believe that alot of pregnancies will be saved by it's use in early pregnancy, depending on the circ_mstances behind each individual case. I like you had low prog. and hcg levels, early in my pregnancy. My prog. level dropped to 9.3 at 7 weeks, and it was taking an unusually long amount of time for my hcg levels to double. (just shy of 4 days) After starting the prog. my levels shot up and have been normal from then on. Between 9-12 weeks it is normal for the doctor to take you off the prog. as the placenta will begin functioning, and producing it's own prog. to support the pregnancy. I was informed just last Oct.that I would never have anymore children due to my reproductive history and an additional failed pregnancy at that time. The doctor's were amazed to discover that I was once again pregnant 3 mos. later. ( SO WAS I !!! )
I had so many mixed emotions at first. I was sure That it wasn't going to happen for me again, and at first wouldn't even discuss my pregnancy with other's. Even now I sometimes have a hard time acknowledging that I am in fact going to have another child. I think that although, the tense feeling of being unsure about how to feel does getter better with time. I do not believe that it ever goes completely away until we are actually holding our healthy babies, and counting fingers and toes. LOL .... I really wish you and your little one the best of luck, and look forward to hearing about your progress.

jn, I feel the same way about school. It's really hard to no think about something that is such a big part of your life right now. There was a baby shower yesterday for another teacher. I like her a lot but just could not make myself go-too hard. I'm supposed to go back in 2wks (Sept. 6) for an u/s. TWO WEEKS! Seems like a lifetime away. I don't know how I'm supposed to act. I don't want to totally mentally believe that I am going to have a baby for fear of another miscarriage. But then again I want to nurture and care for the baby that's possibly growing inside me. Know what I mean? I slipped up and told someone else that I was pregnant and it turns out she had 2 m/c before she had her 3 children so she has been really supportive and understanding. Anyway, I'm still experiencing lower back pains and a little cramping here and there. Still no bleeding. This pregnancy feels different than the last which was a m/c. Last time I was bleeding on and off from the day my period was supposed to start until I m/c. Also last time I didn't cramp until the miscarriage "began" and they were the most awful, unbearable cramps I'd ever felt. So my prayer is that this is the real thing this time. But only God knows whether it is or not. I continue to plead with him for a miracle because every birth is just that and each life so precious and fragile. I will keep you all posted.
