tara G- some women do spot through their pregnancy, so it might not be a bad thing- though I'd be nervous as well. Good luck and I hope you're one of the lucky ones :)

Hello Everyone,
This is my first time here and it breaks my heart to hear that so many women are going through what I have went through 3 times. Here is my story. I have had three miscarriages due to the egg breaking loose from the wall. My hcg levels were always really low. When I would take a hpt, the preg line was always very faint. Finally I found an awesome doctor. She determined that my progesterone levels were very low and I was not ovulating properly. So, first I started out on clomid. This balances a woman's hormones and forces you to ovulate since I was not regular. I then could take a hpt on the day after my period didn't start. It was a very strong positive (finally after 6 years of trying). I called the doctor and she started me on progesterone supplements until I was 12 weeks along. My first ultrasound told us that we were having twins. We were very cautious the entire time, (withheld s_x for the entire 9 months as I was so sure that made me miscarry prior, even though now I know it didn't). I quit my job and stayed home to take it easy. At 24 weeks, I started bleeding - rush to the ER and I was dialated. An ER doctor did a cerclage and I was in the hospital on complete bed rest for 4 weeks before giving birth to my two children Zachary was 2 1/2 lbs and Abigail was 2 1/4 lbs on november 06, 2002. After a month in the NICU, my kids are now healthy 2 1/2 year olds weighing around 30 lbs and 20 lbs.
Although I would love to have another one. I feel like I should just be grateful for the two miracles that I have. I have irregular periods to begin with. I am 31 years old and have not had a period for 6 months and now I have started to have this brown color when I wipe for the past three days. I have never had a period like this. I am usually a heavy bleeder and although I may start by spotting, by day two I am well aware that I am on my period. I took a hpt and it is showing nothing. Could it really be wrong. I know that they are supposed to be able to pick up hcg levels of like 20 now (i used the early detecting test). I don't know whether to talk to my doctor about and have her do a test. I have moved so I have a different doctor now (real bummer). Has anyone had this happen where they were pregnant but the hpt's were saying no?

Jen, I have never personally experienced a negative pregnancy test while being pregnant, but, through visiting other forums, I have learned that it happens quite frequently. I would suggest that you speak to your doctor about your symptoms. You are so fortunate to have your twins. It is definitely a refreshing story amidst all of the heartbreak and nervousness that seems to be going on (myself included). I am still not sure if everything is alright with my pregnancy. I have an ultrasound scheduled for next Friday. I hope by then that we will be able to see something...I think that my hcg levels should be high enough by that time. I am still having that brown spotting (only on tissue) and a clear-pink to white mucousy substance (TMI< I know). It just seems like bleeding should be incompatible with pregnancy. My husband is a Dr., and he is very positive about the whole thing. I don't know why I can't shake this "feeling" that I have.

Jami, I know exactly how you feel. I was that same way my entire pregnancy. I think as women who have lost, we just keep our guard up. It is like you are afraid to be happy and then let down. I remember people always telling me not to worry about it so much and that is a lot easier said than done. I was told that the white discharge was normal. I pretty much did that my entire pregnancy (all 28 weeks) Giving birth early was due to twins and my cervix being weak due to a leap procedure I had earlier because of a abnormal pap. Anyways, I would tell you not to worry but speaking from experience, it won't help. So from now until you have your u/s, you need to stay as busy as possible so you do not go insane. I will keep you in my prayers.

Thank you so much Amy! It is not a pleasant experience (as you know) but I am better today than I was yesterday and just hope that it gets better physically and mentally each day. I hope you continue with a normal and healthy pregnancy! thank you so much for your care and support!

Hello All. I just want to let you all know that this is my first time here but I am just heartfelt reading everyone's concern. My situation differs a little but yet the same. Jan. 13th 2004, I suffered my 9th miscarriage in the row. I have taken so many test during and after pregnancy but I miscarry every 6 wk 3 - 4 days in my pregnancy. ALWAYS. I never really have any preg. symptoms. my b___st is sore one day and then their not. I always have pain on my lower right side and the Dr. always told me that my progesterone level is low. The baby just stops breathing at 6wks and im getting no answers. I've read and search the net for answers and came up with none. I am currently pregnant, 4 1/2 weeks and again not having no preg symptoms. my b___st only hurts a little when I touch them and it is scary. I just wanted to let you all know that you are not alone with your concern and imagine if you were in my shoes. My prayers are with each of you and I wish you all the best. This site just lets me know that I'm not alone.

La' Tese,
If your doctor says your progesterone levels are low, have they said anything about fixing that. I used progesterone supp. the first 12 weeks of pregnacy on my 4th pregnacy after 3 miscarriages. This seemed to work (if you read my early post you will see I had twins even though they were not full term, 28 weeks). My doctor always told me that you need the progesterone in your body in order for the egg to attach itself securely. That was what was happening with me. Just little things could make me miscarriage because of it not attaching securely because I didn't produce enough progesterone. That is an easy fix. My doctor said if I wanted to get preg again I would have to use the progesterone again.I would ask about supplements.

AMY: I just read what you wrote to me, Jamie and Beth. How many weeks/days exactly were you when you just saw a sac, then how many weeks/days were you when you saw the baby & heartbeat? Do you remember exactly?? That info will really help me. Thank you!!!

Cate- Thank you. I am happy to see that you are still thinking about me. I havent been back here because I am not pregnant. But I am desperately trying. I think this is my week. How is your pregnancy? Everything great? When I hadnt seen a post from you here on the board I got worried. Glad to see everything is ok.Please keep me posted on the development. I cant wait to know if its a boy or a girl. FUN!! Everyone else, I hope things are ok. I have no idea what kind of advice to offer. I went through these same hoops prior to having my daughter. She is now 2 1/2 , so I am hoping to get lucky this time. I am praying for all of us. Thanks a bunch!

Amy: Thank you thank you thank you for that wonderful news. I am so in the middle right now. Treating myself as I am pregnant even though Dr's say its not a good pregnancy. I know for sure there is still hope for me. I cant stand Dr.'s sometimes.....dont they know there are women out here that do have unusual circ_mstances and everything is not an exact science??? Frustrating. So...until I know otherwise...I am keeping the faith. I am 7 weeks 1 day today. I do another hcg blood test and u/s wed, the 9th. Everyone pls pray for me. And I will pray for all of you!!

I had light spotting and some cramping, but I wasn't far enough along to see anything more than the sac on an ultrasound. At the time the doc. thought I may have been 6 weeks along (I was actually only 4). So, we began the grueling process of testing my blood HCG levels every 2 days for the next 7 days. Although my levels rose, they rose at lower and lower rates each time---58%, 38%, and 25%. Meanwhile, I had only a little spotting off and on. The doc.'s thought I was miscarrying, and I discussed my options with them. I chose to take prostaglandins to get the process going rather than waiting yet another 2-3 weeks to see if I'd start menstruating. I took a home pregnancy test beforehand, and it was negative. So, I had peace of mind that I wasn't getting too far ahead of myself and getting my body to reject a still living baby. After 2 rounds of v____ally-inserted prostaglandins, however, nothing happened. One more blood HCG level was taken, and my number (20-24,000) was considered too low. So, we scheduled a D&C for this past Friday. On this past Thursday, I went for a pre-op. talk with my doc. Somehow, the HCG numbers did not make sense to me, and a couple of times my sister encouraged me to ask for one more ultrasound, just to be sure. The doc. also reviewed my chart and had a hunch that we should do one more ultrasound, so I'd have full peace of mind going into the next day's surgery. It turned out that there was a 6 week, 3 day old baby with a heart beat! The doc. was baffled and said it was a miracle. The baby looked perfect and healthy. We are doing another ultrasound next week. The doc. will feel better, when we make it to the 10th week. But, so far, things look great. The doc. has never seen anything like this before, and he was anxious to share this with his colleagues. Talk about a close call and an emotional roller coaster ride that our friends and family have gone on with us! I'm choosing to celebrate and hope right now, although I know things could still change drastically in the next few weeks. My first pregnancy was just fine, so I'm just going to try to enjoy this baby as long as I have him/her. Praise God for what He has given me today!

Karen, Congratulations. You have to feel so glad that you felt the need to check and double check. So at 6 weeks, your HCG levels were low and would not show positive on a pregnancy test. I have not had a period for 6 months (I usually go every three) and this past week I started this brown spotting only on tissue. I have never done this before. I think I am having some pregnancy symptoms but it could just be in my head. I have done this for 6 years before my twins were born. So I think I want it so bad that I make myself think things. However, I have never done that spotting. I have taken two home tests and both have been negative. I have an appt. on the 16th. Seems a long time to wait. I just have never really had much luck with hp tests. I have never really had enough hcg to show up on any of my miscarriages, only when I was on clomid and was pregnant with twins. Anyways, congratulations and I will keep you in my prayers.
