RESPONSE TO GERI -- Geri, your nurse should have told you that the higher the HCG number, the lower the doubling rate. You should not observe doubling every two days when your levels are high (meaning more than 1000), as yours are. In fact, your doubling time, which I calculated to be 85 hours, is above normal for your HCG level. You are completely normal, and doing better than average. Please take a look at this HCG calculator: http://www.ivfer.com/hcg.htm. Thanks, Kim

Congrats Laurie! I'm going through a similar experience. Approx. 2-3 weeks gestation(not sure of the date of ovul.) my hCG level was 33 -7/12. On 7/6 my hCG level was 11.5 then 22.3 on 7/8. So it has been going up slowly. On 7/15 I have a planned laparoscopy, which my dr will also do a d/c, but I still have to go back tomorrow, 7/14 to check my hCG levels. It is so frustrating waiting this all out. Yesterday, 7/12 I started to spot and today my period is very light, so I'm a__suming the worst. The nurse told me even though I have my period they still need to check the levels. I'm not sure if there is any hope? I also did a pregnancy test today thinking it would be negative, but there was still a light pink line. Any thought? Tomorrow's hCG levels will tell us something,
Thanks for listening.

Hi, I have IVF done on the 6/25 (about 2 1/2 weeks ago) my first pregnancy test was only 14.3 and my 2nd PT was 36.8 it is doubling but very low. I am also going back on Friday for another test. My doctor said that I am very low but numbers are not as important as it needs to keep doubling every 48 hours. Good Luck

I don't think it matters how low, only that it doubles-I had IVF and went for my preg test 7/14-the hcg was 261 which i thought was good, but my second test revealed 210 on 7/16-so it went down, and did not double. I am really scared that I am losing it!
But I think you need to wait and see if your numbers double...

My question is i am currently 3 weeks pregnant and i had a HCG test done and the first was 34 and 2 days later it dropped to 32 its not a huge amount but its still going in the wrong direction also i was told that my progesterone level is lower than they like it to be which concerns me a little(never told me what it was tho) , i did speak to my doctor and she said in some cases the hcg level can go back up and they have no explaination for this but i just so worried as we been trying for a baby for 9 months now and this is the first time i have conceived and the first ever pregnancy.I now have to go back on monday for another blood test to see what is happeneing , but im scared that a misscarrige is inevitable. Did anyone else have a similar problem in the begining and gone on to have a healthy baby or pregnancy so far.

hi. I am thankful for this site. I had a miscarriage last Nov. and am now 4 weeks preganant. The first HCG number was 220, two days later it was 716 and 3 days later it is 1717. The dr. said he wanted to see 2800 so it is not doubling but it is rising. I need some kind of ray of hope. Last time the numbers didn't double either and we lost the baby at 6 weeks. Oh, my progesterone level was 11.5 so he put me on progesterone. Tomorrow I return for another hcg test. You are all in my thoughts and prayers and I am very grateful to have found this site.

Hello eveyone...Last thursday I found out I was 5 weeks pregnant. Friday morning I started to spot a brownish substance. I ended up in the ER Saturday and the docs said that some bleeding can be normal and that everything looked fine. I am still bleeding. I had two tests done to find my hcg levels, the first one I was at 4,096. The second test two days later showed a drop to 3900. I am confused by this. The dr. said she thinks I am starting to miscarry. I was wondering if anyone had this happen where there numbers went lower but not by much and then what happen? I am hoping that nothing is wrong and that they will continue to rise. I go tomorrow for another ultrasound and internal. I hope everything is ok.

I am supposed to be 6 weeks pregnant. My HCG #'s were 85, then 210, a week later they came in at 50. Doctor was surprised I wasn't bleeding yet. I have had a horrible day of worrying, crying, you all know! I am also taking oral Progesterone (as I M/S my first pregnancy, then had two children with progesterone supplements). My doctor ordered another blood test in three days. Since I am not cramping or spotting, I was wondering if the oral Progesterone is keeping me from miscarrying what is not a viable pregnancy. She didn't tell me to stop taking it yet. (My real hope is that the lab screwed up my last count, but I know that is probably unrealistic). Any thoughts?

So glad I found this site. I am 20 days post-IVF with very low pregnancy test results. Test 1=13. Test 2=31. I've been told to wait 4 days before the next test, rather than the usual 2, so I go in this Tuesday a.m. I had no idea what "normal" ranges were until I started poking around on the internet, and now understand how very low I really am. I haven't seen many people with numbers as low as 13 for the first test. I know the number doubled between tests one and two, but I'm scared to death...is it really the doubling that's most important? My b___sts hurt but I'm not really crampy...however my back is really bothering me. Anyone else have that problem. We just found out our remaining three embryos failed to mature and were not frozen. This is our first, and possibly last, IVF attempt. I was doing just fine with the shots, staying pretty positive and feeling good...but I think I've hit a wall. I just can't believe how low my numbers are. The nurses sounded pretty guarded when they spoke to me, saying it might not be viable...but they didn't tell me what normal looked like, so I didn't have a basis of comparison until today. I'm 37 years old, PCOS on metformin, and we've been trying for 2 years. Has anyone overcome low numbers recently? Any information would be so appreciated.

Hey Ashley,
Your low numbers could just mean that you are still early, since it is IVF then you are testing earlier than most women would. I hope that things start to look up for you. the one the started this thread had low numbers too and she has had a baby 9 months later! so stay hopeful. and I pray it works out for you :)
