Hi everyone. Seems like this is a really good place to talk about what we are going through...even if it's just to get it off of our chests. My situation is this- I have PCOS and don't get a period every month and my doc told me a long time ago that I wasn't going to get pregnant. I also have hypothyroidism. My hubby and I pretty much gave up on getting pregnant and accepted the fact that we'd just be the favorite aunt and uncle who spoiled the heck out of our neices and nephews. Well, for some reason I took a pregnancy test in the beginning of Feb. It came back negative. About 2 weeks after Valentines Day my mother called and told me she had a feeling I was pregnant. So, I took a test to see.....and it was positive...I was so excited I took 3...all positive. After confirming the pregnancy with my doc he ran the usual bloodwork and told me my hcg levels were only 50 and should have been higher. A few days later I had a few tiny red spots in my underwear so my doc told me to go to the ER. They tested my HCG and it was at 1964. The ER doc told me he didn't see a baby and that he was going to do a DNC. I freaked and told him no and left the hospital. TWO days later I went to another doc who did an ultrasound in his office and told me....there is a baby ....there is the heart beat...and there is the nice round sac keeping it safe. I should have left well enough alone...but that following Monday I kept my appointment with my old doc...the one who agreed with the ER doc on the D&C...I guess just to prove him wrong. Well the Untrasound tech told me and my doc that there was no fluid in the sac (another doc looked at the results and called it a viable pregnancy and said nothing about missing fluid)and he tested my HCG levels and said they only went up 250 points in 72 hours. So now the old doc said it's going to be a mis or a deformed baby. I called the new doc and told him what I did....he wasn't mad...he just told me that I can choose whatever doc I want but I should choose one and stick with him. My new doc told me that HCG levels do have to rise to keep a pregnancy going...but the fact that my baby looked fine just 3 days ago tells him that my pregnancy is going along as planned. So, I pretty much have no idea what is going to happen here. I go for another ultrasound Thursday to see if all still looks well and growing. If anyone wants to talk...you can email me at Jenfer1106@aol.com. Thanks for listening and believe in the power of positive thinking.

Oh my - what an ordeal Jen. Sorry. I don't have much time to write... just wanted to say I am pulling for you and that little baby as are all the readers I am sure. With my first pregnancy, I really liked that my doc didn't do too much testing or interfere in the natural process of it all. Unfortunately on this site there are plenty of us who have had some negative experiences like yours and have had extra tests, sometimes causing unnecessary worry. BUT it sounds like you are probably very early in your pregnacy and things may very well be going along just fine. Keep us posted! Keep up that positive thinking!!! (And make sure you are comfortable with the doc you choose...)

Hello all. I'm experiencing the same unfortunate issue as most of you. My first hcg level was low, 74, and the second was only 119, 3 days later. Today it was 104. =( So clearly, not good. My question for you all is, does anyone know how long it could take for me to start bleeding? I've actually been lightly spotting since the day I found out I was pg - about 9 days now, but still not bleeding. I have basically lost all hope and am anxious to get this over with. I'm praying for that the rest of you have more positive ending to your stories. Also please know that all of your contributions to this site have helped me to stay sane over the past 10 days. Thanks!

Hi Tracy. I'm so sorry for what you are experiencing. I wish I could offer you answers on the bleeding if you are m/c... If you are, it can vary from person to person it seems. Did your doc or midwife offer any info? Keep us posted... just wanted to say I was thinking about ya...

I wrote earlier to say that my 1st 2 hcg levels were low, my 3rd level was 212 at 4 wks which was still low, all the various medics I spoke to at the hosp thought it was defo ectopic, been for a scan today (5wk 3d) and saw the yolk sac in the right place along with a slight flickering which was apparently a heartbeat. Its such a relief for it not to be ectopic, as I have had 2 in past, however its early days yet and I am still woried because of the slow start, but there is always hope and I suppose just because levels start low can still result in a success, so fingers crossed.

I have had 2 miscarriages, and I think I am in the midst of #3. My LMP was 02/19/05, on 03/22/05 realized I was 2 days late on my period. Took a home pregnancy testx2 and the results were a very light +. Went to my family Dr. and got a serum hcg test, was + for pregnancy. Then on 03/26 started spotting tan discharge, this has gone on for 2 days now, this morning I went to the Dr. and had an hcg level drawn, is was 41. I am getting another level drawn in 2 days, but I am sure with such a low level when I am 5 weeks pregnant I will be miscarrying anytime now. The one good thing that could come out of this, is the fact that I have been unable to find a Dr. before who would be agressive about exploring why I've miscarried (I've heard, "you're young..you'll have more.") and finally this Dr. is aggressive and we can finally find out why I have had all these losses. Already made an appointment in 4 weeks with a specialist to start finding out what's going on. If anyone wants to email me, and discuss their similar situations, feel free: kacylynn@yahoo.com

Hello everyone. I hope I can offer a little hope to you guys. I've had four children and six early miscarriages. I am now nine weeks pregnant. At 4 wks my hcg was 40. Two days later, it was 138. At 6 wks it was only 3503, and two days later it had only risen to 4500. No heartbeat could be seen at 6 wks 2 days. It looked pretty hopeless. But after a prayerful week, I had another ultrasound, and there was a heartbeat! The nurse was shocked. Since then, my hcg has only creeped up gradually, but I had another ultrasound at 8 wks 2 days and the heartbeat was still there and going strong. The fetus measures too small, and there's some blood behind the placenta, but my doctor says a heartbeat above 100bpm is all he needs to see. Our little peanut's heartbeat is 150bpm. I have a friend who was told she was miscarrying and needed a d&c because she was bleeding and they couldn't find a heartbeat, but when she was actually on the operating table her doctor had a bad feeling about it and did another ultrasound and found a heartbeat! Just don't give up! Doctors are great, but just human. Treat your body as if you are pregnant if you believe you are, and don't let them do a d&c or medications to induce a miscarriage unless absolutely necessary. Remember, miracles do happen! Just wait for yours. God bless you all.

I went in 3/29 for blood test. the results showed 172 hcg level. They told me to come back in a week and re-test. Before the blood test i took 3 hpt and all were positive. Is there anything to be worried about. I just hope the number increases by next week. The nurses said my hcg needs to be @ 900 before they schedule a prenatal exam. Has this happened to anyone else

I have just done my 2nd IVF. I lost the first at 10 weeks also started off with low numbers. I tested at 12 days after transfer it was 37, did a further test at 15 days it was 100 and another at 19 days it was 324, I had my first scan today, there was no hearbeat and it looks like an empty sac. My HCG is 770 which is increasing but not enough to sustain a pg of 6 weeks so I will go back on Monday for another scan and then posssibly surgery to remove the ectopic. This will be my 3rd pg loss, we have been ttc for 5 years.
Thank you for letting me vent.
I pray that all those with low numbers go on to have succesful pg and if not may we have the strength to carry on.

I am going thru the same thing. On 3/22 - HCG - 109.2 4 wks 0 days
3/24 - HCG - 189.9 4 wks 2 days
3/27 - HCG - 371 4 wks 6 days
3/29 - HCG - 538 5 wks 1 day
I will get my blood drawn tomorrow.I had bleeding and clotting on Sunday and Monday. I have been spotting since then. I want to believe this is going to become a viable pregnancy. But, I am preparing for another miscarriage. We have been battling infertilty for 5 yrs. We lost a baby last year at 12 wks. I just need to be around other who understand what we are going thru.

Do decline in Hcg ALWAYS mean you will miscarry?

Lyndia- I hate to be the person to say Yes, but when I m/c'd on 3/3... my dr. told me that a decline in hcg #s is 99% "inevitable abortion". I am so sorry- it was the worst news I had ever heard! :( Hang in there!!!!

Hi Laurie,
I had IVF done too (2nd. try) my pregnancy test was positive but the hcg levels were low, as per the doctors, I had 30 on the first test and 2 days later I had 33, the doctor asked me to stop taking the progesterone because the pregnancy is not going to survive. I don't know what to think or what to do... Any help?? - Thanks - Sara

This site is wonderful - thank you Laurie. I have just completed my 1st IVF cycle and had my 1st pg test 11 post transfer (transfer was a 6 day blasocyst) and the HCG is 37. Dr told me I have a less than 5% chance of a viable pregnancy and I just need to wait for the miscarriage. I have to wait 4 days for another blood test and I'm at my wits end. It's nice to know I'm not alone and my prayers are will all of you.
