Pregnancy After Tubal Ligation

To Shanika - I am soooo with Toni. A student told you this. Please most dr's aren't aware of what the human body is capable of doing. I have done alot of research and reading since I found out I was pregnant after having a tubal almost 6 years ago. It can happen and it doesn't matter what type of tubal you had, cut, burnt, tied, cut several places, etc. If dr's who have been practicing for years and years aren't totally sure of why a body repairs itself or allows an egg to get fertilized after a tubal then what the hell does a student, OB-GYN or otherwise, think they are doing telling your that it can't happen. Last time I checked dr's, students oe people in general didn't make the miracles and other fascinating things that happen in this world happen. So go get tested, keep it in your mind that it could happen, tell other people that it could happen. Make more women aware that their procedure could fail at any time and they need to be aware of the symptoms and not just chalk it up to nonsense.

Paula- that is so true . I'm going to go get tested but for some change reason I'm in denial that I can't get pregnant. Reading what you all is going thru makes me scared, just my luck I will get pregnant. I thought it was all in my head. Thanks for the support. I guess wanting to be pg and someone saying that it can't happen and another saying oh yeah it can I'm proof that it happens gives me hope.

How possible is it to become pregnant after a tubal ligation if my tubes were only tied. They've been tied for a year, and I'm like having every sign of being pregnant. I was only 21 when I had them tied.

I started my cycle today,I'm kind of relieved but wondering should I still go for a pg test. It's not normal it's like a pink color so I'm wondering will it get heavier than that. I will know by night fall if it gets heavy. I don't know if I spotted with my other two kids. Normally when I start my b___st stop hurting and the swelling will go down but they still hurt.

Momof4 & Tonya- there is a possiblity of pregnancy after a tubal no matter what procedure you had done. From the reading I have done it seems that the younger you are or if you had the procedure done right after having a baby the more apt your body is to right itself and repair itself. If you feel like you are pregnant, symptoms, missed periods, take a home pg test. If negative give it a week or so, if still no period and still have symptoms got o a dr right away and have a blood test done. Shanika - right after I took the home pg test and it was pos I calle dthe dr made an appointment for the following tues. I started spotting, light brown then pink, no cramps and no heavy bleeding like a normal period. Dr says that I miscarried then, it seemed I didn't expel the placenta or sac though. Keep an eye on it though. Look for any discharge of bloody material, could be the baby. Take any large discharges if they occur to the dr right away (I know gross) but there could be a chance that you don't expel the baby and need a D & C. Keep us posted.

Thanks Paula I went today to review my chart and see what was done. I did not have a follow-up visit with my doc to see if they healed right and when I did go it was for my annual. So now I'm wondering if they grew back together. I only spot when I go to the bathroom so now I'm confuse never happen like this. I will do

Trina- I did you your doc know that your tubes had grown back together

Trina - June 15

I had a miscarriage- He said by that he is sure my tubes have grown back together. I am going to start on the patch after this cycle so we can plan to have a baby. They can also do a tubal flush too. That is where they inject die into our tubes to see if there is an opening. I was very young when I had my tubes tied. 22. And it was right after my third boy was born. The younger you are when you have them done- the more chances you have for them to rejoin.

shanika - June 15

Thanks for the info Trine. So do you think I should go and get dye in my tubes to see if there's and opening.

Trina - June 15

If the doc suspects that your tubes have grown back together- he/she will order a flush done. Ask you doctor when you go to see him.

I have a question for the women out there who have gotten pregnant after a TL. Did your cycle change? A friend of mind advised me not to get it but I was so dead set on not having anymore children, that I went on with it. I don't believe I understood the after math. Prior to having the surgery I had my cycle for 4 days, now it longer and heavier. I didn't get bloated, have tender b___st,cramps or mood swings. I never could relate but now I have all of these things. I feel like I'm having a miscarriage every month. I get so bloated Iooks like I'm 3 months pregnant. I have been a athlete all my life. I ran track and currently run daily. It just astonishs me how a stomach could be so big and then go down in a day or so. Also would a reversal help? I'm going to pray and ask God to heel me. So if that includes making the tubes normal then so be it!

Toni: Thats the syndrome thats a__sociated with tubal ligation. All the symptoms you described. I have the worst periods ever since having my tubal, sometimes it last 6 or 7 days, when before it was only about 4. Heavier and very much more painful than befor that darn surgery!!

Shanika - June 16

Good morning ladies- I started my cycle lastnight just before I started to take HPT. A little upset I cried lastnight about it. God will bless me one day with a child again and he knows my heart. Better luck next time......

Trina - June 16

I have a question for you ladies-the ones that have issues with heavier periods and such since your surgeries-where you gals on birth control before having children and then getting the tubal done? If you were-the periods you were experiencing before were "fake" periods. The hormones in the pill will make your body think it is pregnant-it is safe to take the pill for all four weeks out of the month. The doctors have made it so that you will have a "fake" period to ease womens minds that they are not pregnant. It is actually not even a period-it is a reaction to going off of the hormones for that week. Back before there was birth control-woman either didnt have a period because they were b___stfeeding, or pregnant. They invinted birth control so that woman could have more control over there own reproductive systems. Like I said before-they made birth control the way it is so that the female would feel more at ease having that one period a month, so she could push it out of the back of her head it was not a pregnancy. If you were on the birth control before-the hormones in your system would have made you have a shorter, less painful periods. I am not trying to say that this Tubal Ligation Syndrome isnt real, because I was not able to take the pill before the tubal-hence the three little boys-so I do believe that it does change your body-but so does having a child. Changes your bowels, periods, hair, hips, everything- There is a 1 in 300 chance that the tubal will fail, and there is 1 in 600 chance that a mans viscetomy will fail. Not trying to be a know it all, just trying to give everyone some helpful tips.

Toni - June 16

Trina, I read that too. I was off birth control for a few years prior to having children. My period was shorter when I was on it. I have always had a regular cycle. I first thought well maybe because I was so small prior to having my second child. Then I lost the weigh but the period stayed longer and heavier. I joke to some friends but I believe the Dr. messed up some stuff in there. I says it is because I was so huge when I was pregnant both times, that they figured I'd never know. I'm talking about 75-100lbs weight gain. My daughter is almost 3 now. I don't have cramps but still bleed heavier, get bloated and tender b___st. I had my children 2 years a part.I don't know what happen besides TL. I've learn to cope but I was just wondering. I think I should have let my husband go ahead and do the vas. I just figured it would be eaiser for me since I had just delivered.
