Yvette- what date did you m/c? was it a natural m/c or D&C? Also, what was your last HCG at when you m/c?

Natricia - November 3

My last period started on the 8th of Last month and I waited tell the 20th to start the progestrone cream and it told me to use it 26 days but 14 days later my came on is that normal

Huh? Not sure I understand.

yvette - November 4

daniella-it was a natural m/c..as for the actual date..started bleeding 9-26 til 10-4..the fetus expelled on 10-1....i don't know what my hcg level was..dr did not do any bloodwork...just told me there was no heartbeat on 9-26. i still have not had a m. cycle but growing more and more concerned...how much longer should i wait before calling my dr to ask about getting some meds to induce the m. cycle....any ideas???thanks again..you've been a wealth of information and very encouraging...hope all is well on your end....

Yvette- don't do the "provera" or any other meds to induce your period. Here is why... I had my D&C done on July 16th with my HCG at just under 10,000... On Aug. 11th (4 weeks later) my HCG was down to 5.4. (I ovulated and conceived on Aug. 18th, so, right when my levels were all the way down)... Anyhow, I didn't know I conceived and I wanted my period just to come already so on Aug. 25th the dr. put me on provera to induce my period. Day 5 of 7 of the pill...(Aug.31st) I had a positve pregnancy test. Ran to the dr. and my HCG was at 134. So, my fears were that the provera was going to hurt the pregnancy. I am glad I took that pregnancy test before stopping the meds cold turkey and forcing a miscarriage. So, my advice is just wait. If I didn't conceive exactly 5 weeks after my D&C, I would have got my period 7 weeks later.. (day 49) after. Hope that helps!!

I am in my 13week and things seem to be fine. I have had low progesterone in the past.. and for that reason had about 3 periods a year. is this something that I should be worried about? even though the baby is healthy and wriggling around?

Maya- Nope not at all!! I am 13 weeks right now also and always had a progesterone problem. I wouldn't only ovulate maybe 2 times a year also... Anyhow, once you turn 12 weeks pregnant, the baby makes its own hormones thru the placenta... So, in other words its all up to the baby now. If you make it to 12 weeks, every thing is grand. Now, you may want to get your progesterone checked towards the end of your pregnancy to make sure you don't have preterm labor. Low progesterone can cause that also. Yet, I am sure your perfectly fine. Anyhow, no need to worry, your already in the clear. Congrats!!! I just ended my progesterone supplements a week ago and feel great that I dont have to worry about taking them anymore. Yea!! :-)

hi betty. I am 16 weeks and i took them from week 3 until 13. they work. They are natural progesterone if it is a suppository so it cant hurt you- they are not synthetic. Dont worry if your pregnancy symptoms dsappear they WILL come back when you go off of them.

To Trinity - November 6

Trinity... it was a long time ago that betty posted. She would have already had her baby by now. :-)

Diane - November 6

I realized I had low progesterone at week 4 it was 10, 1 week later it was 8. My doctor started me on suppositories and at week 7 I began spotting, just for one day but then my Dr. put me on Intramuscualr injections as well..I took them for one week and got scared of the chances of genital birth defects due to the literature which came with the progesterone oil so I stopped for 6 days and it dropped drastically to 11 when my level was nearing 30 so needless to say I am back on the shots and have an U.S this wed to make sure the heart is still beating. This has been the most frustrating experience for me when all I want to do is have certainty and be happy..I am curious to know if anyone has heard of birth defects due to progesterone or experienced them first hand? I guess it really wouldn't matter tho because without the supplements There wouldn't be a baby inside me and that is all we have ever wanted. If it all works out this will be a very hard won pregnency. Everyone keep hope alive! Thank you and Godbless

Diane- All medicine has to come with warnings and side effects... Its protocol. Anyhow, your body produces progesterone on its own... if your body isn't doing a good enough job at it, taking a supplement is only helping you boost what you can't do. The meds. that the dr. gives you are natural progesterone (for the most part)... so, it wont hurt anymore than the progesterone your own body makes. I would worry about saving the pregnancy instead of worrying about the birth defects because chances are the baby would be perfectly healthy. :) Also, unless you have known to have a progesterone problem, then your levels may be low because you are losing the baby... and not because your body isn't producing enough. So, taking progesterone shots is only prolonging the inevitable. I mean, don't get me wrong... it doesn't hurt to try because you never know. Just saying that it can go 2 ways..... a bad pregnancy can cause your progesterone to drop and taking supps can only prolong the inevitable... _OR_ having low progesterone can make you lose a good pregnancy and taking supps can only help save it... So, either way.. it doesn't hurt to try. Then you know you did what you could. After I had 3 loses and no live births yet, we found out after many extensive testing that my ovaries will never produce enough progesterone on its own to sustain a pregnancy. Unfortunately I lost my last pregnancy from that and nothing else. It would have made it if I would have started the supplements sooner. But, at 8 weeks it was to late. This one I got on the supplements 14 days after conception. So, everything is looking perfect as I now am 13.5 weeks. I would have surely lost this one also if it weren't for the supplements. My level never got over 19 in the first trimester with this pregnancy WITH the supplements. So, progesterone supplements can be a life saver. Literally! :-)

Thank you Daniella, So far my Dr.'s impression of thre pregnancy is that it is growing at a healthy rate and and feels confident that I will be able to carry to term, but I am not that confident because this is my first pregnancy and before this I had no idea I had a progesterone problem, if that is what it is..so everyday is a challenge of not knowing . I am a little over 9 weeks now and am praying tp get to 12..I wonder if the progesterone could hold a non viable pregnancy past the first trimester? Also another worry is it is one week behind the growth rate for my last misssed period date, he said it is common with women who have low progesterone. Is your pregnancy right on with your dates? Anyhow thank you for your response..

Daniella - November 7

Diane- well... my last pregnancy ended at about 12 weeks. But, it could have been longer, I dont know since it wasn't developing as it should. be it was at least that long. Anyhow, you may not really have a progesterone problem normally. It could just be this pregnancy. Just stay on the meds for they can only help. :) Also, the machines, etc. have a 2 week grace period.. Give or take 2 weeks. So, if your off one week.. that isn't too bad at all. As long as it has a strong heartbeat. On that note... how many beats per minute is the heartbeat at? and at how long? Also, when are you going to have another scan?? Oh... here is how most woman realize they have a progesterone problem (also like me)... if your periods are NEVER regular. I will get a period and then not for 3 months... or I will get it twice in one month.. But, usually mine were I would get them much later than normal. Because my progesterone hardly ever got high enough to ovulate or let me get my period. Or if I did get my period, I didn't ovulate. There are many signs to predict if you've had a progesterone problem all along.

Daniella - November 7

Diana... just wanted to add... you can have a non viable pregnancy stay in you for up to 4 weeks after it pa__ses, that is why I had a D&C with my last one once the heartbeat had stopped. Because I didnt want to always wonder when its going to happen or know that I have something no longer viable in me. BUT ANYHOW, I just wanted to add... that there is total hope!! Yours sounds just like my sister where her progesterone was low in the beginning and they put her on meds.. then she was worried and stopped, but her progesterone dropped so much that they gave her shots... SHe had to take 2 shots in her b___t every day until she was 12 weeks. Anyhow, I just want you to know that it saved her baby and she now has a beautiful 5 year old son thats so very smart. My sister was the one that had me have my levels checked the last pregnancy because she said it sounded just like hers.. Well, it was indeed the case, but unfortunately too late. Yours sounds like you caught it in time. Keep posted!! I will pray that this little one is staying strong for you and will be fine!!
