Happy 4th!! I have a question.I'll be 11 weeks tomm But my doctor weaned me of the progesterone last week. They told me the placenta will be fine. I don't have to be 12 weeks I hope she is right considering everone on here goes off at 12 weeks Wondering why she stopped me at 10 1/2 weeks anyone else stopped sooner than 12 weeks??

susan, i am currently 12 weeks and i just stopped my progesterone. my dr wanted me to stop at 10 and i questioned the 12 week number. she said the placenta starts at 10 weeks, but i could take it till 12 to make myself feel better. although i am still nervous! although i still have nausea. funny how that is comforting!

I have had 2 m/c in the last 11 months, I live in the UK and after the second m/c I asked about the possibility it could be my Progesterone levels. Both the doctor and hospital were really quick to brush it off. How do I go about being tested do I have to request blood tests etc, I so want to try again but I am so scared of having a 3rd m/c.

W...If I were you, I would find yourself another doctor/gyno who WILL test your progesterone levels. There are many doctors out there who believe that progesterone levels do NOT account for miscarriages and that any kind of supplement(s) just have a placebo effect. However, as you can see from this site, that isn't also an accurate point of view. Find a doctor who is willing to work with your concerns...Good Luck!!!!

However, as you have read in these posts, that isn't always the case. I would rather err on the side of life! Find another doctor who will address these concerns with you. Good Luck!!!!

Babs.. Thanks for your response, I consulted 2 doctors and they both said the same thing that I had just been unlucky. My surgery here is so hard to get into and the policy is until you have 3 m/c they will not test. I will try and book another appointment maybe with a female doctor who may understand a bit more. Do you have any side affects that would indicate low progesterone?

W...Nope, no side effects. As far as I've heard/read, the only "side effects" of low progesterone COULD be infertility issues and/or repeated miscarriage...although, like you said, doctors mostly still insist that there is nothing one can do to prevent miscarriage. Those are the only issues I have heard of. Good luck!

My progesterone levels were 32 4th week and then dropped to 23, 2 days later. My HCG levels more than doubled from 1600 to 4101 in 2 days at the same time. Should I be concerned about the drop, even though it is not considered low progesterone? My dr. said no, but I am still conderned.

I would have your doc check it again soon, not in a week. If it goes down again, they you need supplements. Hcg is great but you have to have that progesterone up above 20. It may also depend on when you had your blood test, I always go first thing in the morning before I eat anything. Supposed to be the best time.

Dottie - it won't hurt you to take some progesterone supplements, talk to your doc about it but don't stress too much, especially if you don't have a history of m/c. Hope this helps.

Hey, this is my first time writing here. It took me a lot of fighting to get my progesterone level checked. I had a previous ectopic pregnancy and never had normal periods. I found out about a month ago that I am pregnant. My husband is in the military and overseas right now. He lest 7weeks and 5 days ago. So, I knew last week that I had to be at least 7 weeks along. The doctor said that I look only 5 weeks in the ultrasound. I knew something was wrong. He wouldn't test my progesterone so I went to another doctor. They wouldn't either. Finally I went to the hospital and told them to please check it. Sure enough it came back at 8.4 and told me that I should be lucky I even conceived at that level. I am now on Crinone 8% v____ally every night. I also new something wasn't right because my HCG was 6000 on June 21st. Then on July 6th it was only 9500. Even though it went up, it wasn't doubling like it should. Then the other day they tested me again (2 days after the last one) and its now at 7500. So, not looking so promising. The only upside to all this, is on friday there was a highbeat and I haven't bled AT ALL. Thats about it. Its not the size its supposed to be and the levels arent that great. My advice is, if the doctors wont test you for progesterone, keep searching until you find one that will. If this had been caught sooner, I may have a chance. I'm just hope n' for the best now. Even though it may be too late. I will keep you posted. Next u/s is in 2 days. I will know if the progesterone kicked in and if the heartbeat went from a flicker to an actual bpm, etc. Thanks so much and sorry this is kinda long.

Thanks Babs! I have my next u/s in 2 days. Thursday. I will let you know if they still see a heartbeat, any improvements or what. I just wonder if its too late for the progesterone supplements to help knowing that I should be at least 8 weeks along. Hopefully this little thing hangs on there, stays strong and takes it. These next 2 days are going to seem like eternity

I am positive that it works! 3 years ago I had a misscarriage and we had no idea whey. I got pregnant again (my little one turned 1 in March) and they put me on the supp at night and I checked my levels every week. They then added 3 pills to take during the day. Everything went well. I am pregant again 7 weeks and my levels were low again. They put me on the supp 2 weeks ago and they added the 3 pills per day again today. They just called and my levels went from 15.8 to 28.8 in one week! So, I am a beleiver in it.
