I have some questions. I am 7 weeks pregnant. When I first found out, my progesterone levels were low so they put me on Prometrium. They began to rise in one week - the doubled. My question is, now they have dropped? But they did get cardiac movement. Should I be worried?

Good Morning All! I am SO glad to have found this web site. I just went to the doctor on Monday and he told me that I had a positive pregnancy test...which we were hoping for. I am still really nervous. With my first pregnancy, I began to severly cramp and then bleed. Then, I got pregnant with my second one and started to spot at four weeks....everything was fine. But, started to spot again at seven weeks. But, he was born and is just perfect.
I am five weeks now. I went to the doctor on Monday and got tested and my level was 10.5. He said it should be about 15. My HCG levels were fine. He is going to start me on the cream today. Should I be worried? I am sooo scared after what happened before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My email is ward.g@mellon.com if anyone wants to talk or help me out. Thanks so much!

When I first found this boad in Jan, I had found out my progesterone levels were low and I went on prometium for several weeks. I had some spotting and bed rest but when I made it to 13 weeks I felt safe. I chose to do the ultra screen test and it came back abnormal. I had an amnio, and found out that my baby has a full Triploidy.( a double fert egg) I am now 16 weeks along and have to do a D& E next week. Had I not taken the extra pregeterone I would have miscarried at about 8-9weeks. I now understand that for the most part your body knows what it is doing and I caution those of you who take the extra hormone, I saw on this board that it did help, but please be aware that you could also end up just postponing a MC. No one I thnk has posted this bad of a scenario like mine but I wanted to just share so you all can be prepared in the back of your minds if it happens to you. I do have a wonderful 2.5 yr old who knows that God took her baby sister and is going to ask for another at her birthday this summer. I know I am capable of having healthy children this was just purley a fluke. Good luck to whoever reads this and god Bless

Angie-Oh god honey I am soo sorry. I can not believe that happened. I don't know anything about your condition-were heartbeats detected each month? I wish there were something I could say to you. Just the other day I was wondering how you were doing. I promise I will pray for your speedy recovery-both physically and mentally. If there is anything at all we can do for you just post it on the board. Please take care

My first posting was the one above, I see now that there is another angie too, so I am Angie H. I wanted to share one more detail that would help me if I was reading my posts. To get pregnant I used ovulation kits so I KNEW when I conceived. When I had a 7wk Ultrasound the measurements were right on. about 10 days later I went in for my 8wk apt and my ob did another U/S to check, the measurement was small about 3 days. From that point on, I was nervous. Because of spotting I was able to get another U/S at 11wks and the measurements were small by a week. Again I was nervous and they a__sured me all was ok,( strong HB) that I was wrong with when I conceived and maybe it took longer to implant. Another 10 days later I had the ultra screen test and several U/S to get the neck measurement. By now the measurements were off by almost two weeks. Once more I was a__sured all was ok but to be sure they scheduled me for a follow up in 5 weeks. I didn't get that far as the test came back abnormal. So if you just read my last post and in your pregnancy hormonal state freak, ask for some U/S to check measurements. My daughter was right on at the 7 wk and 12 wk. Hope this helps and good luck to you all who are reading.

I am stunned at these posts where doctors don't prescribe progesterone! When I was 35, I was pregnant and spotting - took progesterone during the first trimester and had a healthy boy. I am now 41 and pregnant - the moment I took the test, I called my doctor, who put me on progesterone immediately. I am 9 weeks, have an U/S scheduled in a few days and am hoping for the best. I don't see any reason not to take progesterone if your numbers are low, or if you're an older mom. Good luck to all of you!

I had a questions, if anyone could help me. I have been on progesterone suppliments since 5 w. I am now 12 w. My levels have been checked only once and that was at 7 w. Does this sound normal? I am considering changing OB/GYN's. They dont seem to care much and I have had miscarriages in the past. Thank you.

Kim-I have had 2 misscarriages and am now 16 weeks pregnant with my third child, I am taking progesterone suppositories as well. My doctor only checked my levels one time as well-right at the beginning of pregnancy. Although she continues to keep me on the progesterone, she said as long as I have no problems with spotting or alot of cramping then there is no need to keep checking the levels. So far I haven't had these problems so I bet that is why you are not having your levels checked over and over again. If you were having problems then I am sure they would check so be glad that they seem to have no reason to do so. Good luck and I hope this helps!

I was prescribed progesterone for light bleeding at about 7 weeks - it cleared up the bleeding - but last week, at 11 weeks, I had an ectpoic pregnancy rupture. PLEASE ladies, before you take anything, make then do an ultrasound - I a__sumed the dr. knew the baby was ok without one, and almost died last week as a result. It breaks my heart that I lost my baby, but I would have rather known 4 weeks ago and not lost an ovary and tube at the same time. This was my first pregnancy, and I feel so stupid for trusting the dr when they didn't do more than bloodwork and basically patted me on the head and sent me on my way with progesterone. I've since learned that 83% of ectpoic pregnancies have progesterone below 15.

hi, Im new to this board and I have a few questions. I had a mc feb 9 at 6wks they did an u/s and found the baby to be 5 wks and i m/c a few days later. She asked be to come in at 21 days after my next normal cycle. I went in friday and they said my prog. is 10 and it should be around 20 and to come back at day 15 of my next cycle to get prog. My last preg i got spotting a little clotting and brown discharge at 3 wks when i would have normally started(my periods are every 22 days) It lasted a couple of days and stopped so i thought it was implantation and didnt worry then I started bleeding heavier at 5 wks. when i had the first round of bleeding it was to soon for it even to come up on preg. test it showed at 4 wks. My problem now is that i had a little clotting this morning and then brown discharge this afternoon and im not sure if im preg or not. I tested and it was neg. the same as last time and the nurse said to just wait and if i get a positive test then they will put me on prog. Would that be to late. I dont want to have another mc. Im scared.

kim- I have a similar story as becky. I started the progesterone as soon as I found out I was pregnant. (about 5 wks) and I had no spotting so they did not test me again. I am now 18 wks. It was VERY nerve racking!!! I worried that every tinge or cramp was a problem but so far everythings has turned out okay. My first ultrasound was at 8 wks. All looked good there. I have my next one in two weeks. I'll keep you posted. Keep your head up. If you really worry you're MD isn't listening to you though it doesn't hurt to visit and scope out another MD.

Hello everyone-I just thought I would post some updates on my pregnancy. Today I had my sixteen week visit and was lucky enough to get an Ultra Sound. My doctor thinks I may be having a little girl!!! I am so excited as I have two boys and this is why we tried a third time. She said everything looks really good and now I can stop taking my prometrium. YEAH! I am a little nervous about stopping the progesterone but I am also so relieved to have been able to see the baby, see it move, see its heartbeat and find out that everything looks good. I had the genetic screening test done today and I will have the results in 3 weeks. All I can say is thank god for my having a doctor who takes such good care of me and has kept me on progesterone to help my pregnancies maintain. Every day has been filled with worry, wondering if I would misscarry again but each day the baby gets bigger, heartbeat gets stronger and I am almost half way there so all of us who struggle with the low progesterone-keep praying and just follow doctor's orders. I will be continually thinking about all of you and praying for all of us! Good luck to all!
