Well I am not sure what your level needs to be. But I went to the doc today and I am on clomid and my level is 59.40...Mind you I am not preg yet. And the doc. said that was great.

I don't know. I'm in a similar situation right now. I started spotting (brownish colored) on Sunday night (3/19) and went to my Dr. on Tuesday. He examined me and said my uterus felt normal for how far along I should be but scheduled me for blood work and an ultrasound. The next day he called and said my progesterone was only 7 and he wanted me to start taking Prometrium. Later on that day, I had an ultrasound and saw/heard my baby's heart beating! The radiologist said that the u/s looked normal and there were no signs of bleeding from the baby or the sac. According to the U/S, I'm 6 weeks and 5 days. Today I had more blood work done and I meet with my Dr. tomorrow to get and discuss the results. I'm so nervous because even while taking the Premetrium I still have mild cramping and spotting (still brown). I don't know if I'm prolonging the inevitable or if my body is just naturally low in progesterone. I'm soo confused!

Just looking for some thoughts- I had a m/c a little over a year ago- DH and I have been trying ever since. We are doing IUI - this time we used the HCG trigger shot before the IUI. On 3 dpo, I went in for blood work- was told progesterone was 9.1 and it should be at least 10- started on Prog suppositories that night- last Fri- went back this morning for b/w- am waiting for them to call with new results. Is 9.1 really that low for only 3 days past ovulation? It's usually checked at 7 dpo- I'm just trying to get info on this while waiting for the call... thanks. Brooke

Just a follow up to past email- the call came with progesterone at 21.2! So if a pregnancy did occur, looks like levels are good to sustain. Cross fingers! Brooke

Ladies i'm curious what country are you from? I'm asking because my fertility specialist said that they don't prescribe progesterone supplements any more. At 5 weeks 3 days my progesteron was only 9.1 and my doctor wouldn't give me any medication. I'm so upset, this is my first pregnancy, we've been trying for 6 years... I live in the USA

On friday I was 7 weeks pregnant with good strong heart tones, same day they repeated a progesterone test, level dropped from 28.4 to 13 in 2 weeks. Repeating another US next Tuesday, and very nervous. Prog. v____al 200mg were prescribed - we'll see what happens. Yes progesterone should and can be subscribed by your doctor - stand up for what you want or get a 2nd opinion.

I am 6 weeks prego today. Miscarried in january due to low pregesterone/HCG not double. I had my blood work done last Wed and my HCg level were2302 and progesterone was10.8. Doc said too early to see what my progesterone levels were but put me on prometrium 100mg 2x a day. Had more blood work done on friday and got my results back and HCG was 5909. They didn't check my progesterone level this time. I go back to the doc on April 27. I am keeping my fingers crossed and praying for a healthy pregnancy/baby. I have a good feeling about this pregnancy this time around! Good luck to all!

well ladies I am a new graduate registered nurse 24 y/o and to date i have had 3 miscarriages. 1st one at 15 y/o then at 23 y/o twice last year. I am trying again to get pregnant, my doctor says i may need progesterone supplements, which is okay for me. I have done some research and it sounds okay to me. my question is when do you start the progesterone once you are pregnant? because last year I got to 6 weeks and no one in the dr's office even mentioned it to me. not until my second miscarriage which was right after the first m/c did they even mention that may be the problem. curious to know??

My doc tor put me on prometrium when I was 5wks prego. She put me on it b/c I miscarried in January 2006. So far so good and I have had no problems what so ever this time around. I don't see any problem putting you on this medication. It works for lots of people who have had previous miscarriages. Does you doctor know why you have miscarried 3 times? Mine was more than likely due to low progesterone levels but no one can really say for sure. God has a plan for everyone. Good luck to you.

My progesterone was 11 but no spotting, so my Dr. put me on supplements (progesterone) and he decided to have me do u/s one week after I had started on it. The u/s was today and everything went well, heart beat 141. Progesterone level during first trimester should be 10 and up, even though 10 is low, if goes down lower than 10, the woman start spotting which COULD lead to a miscarriage, because a deficit in progesterone triggers shedding of the uterus. Keep it in mind that progesterone is a natural hormone in our bodies and if it is going down it might be your body telling you something, which will need to be confirmed with an u/s to see if the pregnancy is viable. So, from that on you will see if supplements will be an option for you.

Svetlana, I am in the US and just found out on Friday that I was pg. We mc in Oct so doc ran blood tests for hcg, prog and thyroid to make sure everything was good. My prog is 23 which is where my office wants to be but my doc also told me that some docs don't beleive in giving prog to supplement low prog level. Mine does so I know I'm OK if my number drops but it sounds like it's a doc choice based on their medical beleifs.

Hello all, see my intro above. In my last pg I mc. I was about 8 weeks but we never did blood work (1st pg). This time we will monitor eveything closely. My question is how often can pg change? How often should I be requesting to have it tested if doc doesn't initiate? I know hcg is supposed to double every 2 days but don't know the guideline for progesterone monitoring..

Let me try to separate fact from fiction. Your progesterone level can still be considered in the normal range which is 9-47 in early pregnancy. Spotting during pregnancy can be a sign of impending miscarriage or it can mean nothing. About half of women bleed because the pregnancy is not viable. In the other half of cases, they can sometimes diagnose the cause, other times not, but most of these women will deliver healthy babies. If the ultrasound looks good, then you have nothing to worry about. Also understand a single progesterone value can never be predictive. progesterone levels fluctuate during the day and the test itself never gives an exact number (it can plus or minus a few). As for supplements, the creme seems to be safer and more effective than pills but it cant save a bad pregnancy. There is no consensus in the medical community about progesterone as an indicator of pregnancy health (except to say that you need a minimum level, which you have). and there is no consensus about whether or not its useful. Some doctors are gung ho on it because they figure it cant hurt and only help. other doctors still worry about unknown side effects. It does seem to be reasonably safe. People who use it and have successful pregnancies with prior bad experiences naturally will credit the progesterone but statistically we do know that a single miscarriage doesnt decrease your chances of a subsequent healthy pregnancy. And even among people who have had 3+ miscarriages and dont use progesterone, 60-70% will still conceive again and deliver healthy babies. Whether or not low progesterone is a cause of recurrent miscarriage is HIGHLY debatable. Many doctors believe low progesterone (and again, your level is still normal) is a sign that something is wrong with the pregnancy, not thay it causes a bad pregnancy. Progesterone probably does help women with a luteal phase defect who never produce enough progesterone but other than that the benefits are entirely unproven. I see women here panicking over numbers that are on the low side of normal but they are still normal. I understand the worry. but the main concern should be how ultrasounds are turning out, the measurements they take there. and obviously your HCG should be doubling at an acceptable rate. Best of luck to all.

I really dont want to make anyone feel badly. I hate all the pregnancy testing, it just freaks women out. Let me start by saying that if HCG is rising but not coming anywhere close to doubling, its a very poor sign. If it is rising and not quite doubling, you can only do further monitoring. this can happen and a healthy pregnancy can result. as you progress, the doubling time lengthens but in the beginning it something around every 1.5 days to 3 days, you should have a doubling. Fortunately you dont have to sweat much because they should be testing your HCG every 3 days. after a few results they will be able to tell you what they think. Also they will give you an ultrasound at around 5 weeks or 1500 hcg to see a pregnancy sac. the next benchmark is a fetal heartbeat between 6 and 7 weeks (since last menstrual period) Ultimately the ultrasound becomes the best pregnancy indicator. Good luck and best!!!!
