I was never told to be on bedrest during my bleed, just told to take it easy and not lift anything heavy and it resolved itself and I'm back to completely normal activity since. Each doctor is different but I was told bedrest wouldnt' do any good with a Subchorionic bleed and to refrain from s_x and heavy lifting but to go on with daily life because at this stage, there isn't anything or much of anything you can do to prevent a miscarriage. If your body is rejecting a pregnancy, which isn't the case with a subchorionic bleed, then there is nothing to stop your body from rejecting it this early. A subchorionic bleed, if it continues can cause a miscarriage but there is no evidence showing that being on bedrest helps resolve a subchorionic bleed.

Hi Berry_Mom,
It is good that your bled is getting absorbed ,I had multiple bleed episodes during the first trimester but second was good. I was also put on bed rest for the first trimester and resumed work in the second. Even if it is just a precaution take rest til your doctor asks and increase your activity level slowly, I know from experince bedrest can be very tiring. Try and pick up a hobby or something like knitting or something to relax you. Rest is important for both the baby and the mom, ask your doctor and take it slow even when he says you can go to work. You are taking care of you +1 at this time. Wish you all the best.

I was 9wk-2days pregnant when I started spotting it was just a little but it scared me and I went to the ER. They did an U/S and everything looked really good and then exactly 1 week later I started to bleed and pa__sed a small clot went back to the hospital and they did another check up and U/S everything again was just fine so the doctor did a pap and it showed I had an infection and they think that is what is causing the bleeding. But, now they call it a threatened miscarriage due to the bleeding. But, baby is doing awesome and the heartbeat was 162 bmp.

hi Brenda,
I had multiple bleed episodes during first trimester and the first one was heavy and they called it a threatened misscarrige too, but if it is any relif I am now into my 33 Week. Take care of yourself and try and relax as much as possible, think positive and I can tell you from experince it is not as easy as it sounds but think about the baby, it needs you to stop worrying what has to happen will, and will have a good reason, all you can do is stay positive and relax. It will all work out for the best.

I have been reading your postings with interest. I am pregnant with twins after IVF and years of trying on our own. I had my first bleed at 6 weeks(bright red bleeding) and again last night I starting bleeding heavily again with another gush of brown blood. I was told I had a subchorionic bleed at the U/S at 6 weeks. Unfortunately the bleed had increased in my U/S last week. I am very worried and sick about losing these babes. My doctors have been pessimistic citing the 50/50 chance of miscarriage and as the bleed increased were even more so. I have been on bedrest. I am wondering though if the body doesn't absorb the blood doesn't it have to come out v____ally? How long did some of you bleed? Any success stories with large bleeds?
Thanks so much for your help!

I'm Nat from the strings above (earlier in '06) and wanted to update you all. I have a 3 month old son who is perfectly healthy. I think that more often than not, sub c bleeding scenarios have happy endings if this site is any guide. I've also read about studies indicating that bleeding means a 50/50 chance of miscarriage....BUT sub c bleeding has different odds that are almost all better odds. Good luck to all and stay as positive as you possibly can!

I had a sb and they told me it was ok and everything would be fine. Unfortunatly mine was a sign of blood flow problem and i lost my baby at 19weeks. SB can be a sign of maternal blood flow problems. I have to take low dose aspirin next time around to keep the blood thinner.

Kira lynn thanks for sharing your story. I can't imagine the pain of being pregnant for 19 weeks and then losing the baby. What a horrible experience. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Kira I can't imagine how painful that must be , but thank you for telling us so we can be aware of the risks. I will pray for you and your next pregnancy.Did you bleed with your condition? My Dr hasn't given me any restrictions - she told me it should be fine and correct itself , but I read on medical web sites- pevic rest , no heavy lifting or exercize, and now I am wondering why my Dr. wouldn't give me this advise as a precaution. Is she downplaying the severity of it?I have a lot of mestraul like cramping but no bleeding.

I have not found much on subchorionic bleed either. With my first pregnancy I had light spotting for about a month and finally found out that it was a sub bleed. I carried almost to term and now have a beautiful almost 2 year old little girl. I am pregnant again and I have a u/s on Thursday because I am having the light spotting and have had it since x-mas day.Fingers crossed everything works out.

Hi All, it's been a while since I last wrote :-) Kira It must be very diffcult dealing with such a loss, my heart is with you :-) hopefully all will go well with the next pregnancy. I didn't find much information on subchorionic bleeds either, this forum was the most heplful, as you find just how common the condition is, and you can share your stories with other women in the same situation. My partner's cousin fell pregnant about 4 months after us, she started bleeding also, it appeared to be a subchorionic bleed but she also was a negative blood type. All went well for her too until 13 weeks and she lost her bub. What I was told by our doc that it does give you a 50/50 chance of miscarriage. I'm not sure whether the lack of info out there on the topic is because they don't know too much about it or not. But it is nice to find somewhere where you can speak with other women and get and offer support. I best give an update on our little one, after many hurdles (including low lying placenta, gestational diabetes etc) we have made it to 36 weeks, our last ultrasound was 2 weeks ago, all blood flow to bub appears good, we also found out we were having a girl (she showed her privates off this time!). She was estimated at 6pd3oz at 34 weeks, and the doc said he expects her birth weight to be around 8 to 8.5 pounds (not bad for a first bub!). She is head first and is making her way down, so we are very excited and hoping for a natural birth. If we don't go into labour in the next three weeks though we are being induced due to the gestational diabetes. So will keep you updated! Best of luck to you all and lots of love, our thoughts are with you :-)

I posted a question, but no one has replied to it yet. I was diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma at 11 wks. I have had no bleeding since then, except some old blood at 15wks. I am now 22 wks and had my first appt. with my peri on the 9th. She said that the blood clot is still there and that it is close to my cervix. She said that I am at a high risk of my water breaking early. Does anyone know why that is? Also, she never called it a subchorionic hematoma, just a blood clot, and on the u/s it appeared to be by my placenta, not under it. Could it still be a subchorionic hematoma? Thanks

3timemama, if she's calling it a clot I don't think that's the same thing as a subchorionic bleed. A subchorionic bleed is a layer of blood or a pocket of blood between the uterus and the placenta. Atleast that's my understanding of it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong! On the U/S it looked like a second sac (early on in the pregnancy) and then slowly got smaller in comparison to the baby. HTH!

I just want to say, this thread has allowed me to sleep at night. I am 8 weeks pregnant (after 2 miscarriages), started spotting at 4 1/2 weeks, then GUSHED bright red blood one night last week. I thought for sure I had lost another baby, but when my doctor got me in for an ultrasound, I had a baby, and that baby had a heartbeat! But, it also looked like I had a subchorionic bleed. It's been a week now since the bright red blood, and I've just been spotting dark, dark brown. I'm getting tired of it, but now that I know what it is and that it hopefully isn't affecting my pregnancy, I feel a little more calm. It is just SO UNFAIR that a woman who has only had miscarriages should have to deal with blood during a pregnancy! Anyway, thanks to everyone who has posted success stories here - they've really calmed me.

Hi ladies. I have some great news to share. At 5 weeks I was diagnosed with a subchorionic bleed and it just wasn't going away, but now at 11 weeks it is totally gone. What a relief. Also got to see an ultye cool ultrasound of my peanut who now looks like a mini baby fingers and toes and she/ he was almost waving at me.So try to think positive- most of them do clear up on their own, although I know it can be scary when you are going through it.

Jenny, thanks so much for coming back and posting that - it brings a lot of hope, as my spotting just seems to keep on coming! I REALLY hope it goes away soon!
Congratulations on getting a great view of your baby - I have an u/s in 2 weeks (I'll be 10 weeks) and I can't wait to get the rea__surance that everything is ok! For now, I have to believe that the queasiness is serving its purpose and my baby is growing away in there!
