Subchorionic Bleeding

Follow up: I went for a 2nd opinion and this doctor was much detailed in his explantion. As a couple people have mentioned, my doctor reiterated that this is not life threatening. He said my baby is not in any danger. He did say that overdoing it is not a good idea and that lifting, s_x and excercise were not a good recommended right now. It was rea__suring to hear the same thing from another doctor. I hope this helps all of you. He did empathize with my fear and anxiety. I do feel better after having met with him. Does that make it better when I am bleeding? Not really, but I am able to be a little more rational about it. I hope this helps. Oh- one other he did say was that he has seen this last through half a pregnancy or more. So I am bracing myself and I am thinking of buying some stock in Kotex- I am going thru pantyliners like they are going out of style!

I just wanted to tell you that at 7 1/2 weeks I was first diagnosed and then at 9 weeks they determined that my sub had healed itself. So it was that fast for me. There is so much hope. Depending on the size of your sub this really is no big deal but I know that the bleeding is scary no matter what. Thanks for the prayers

Hi all - I am 10 weeks and have been spotting dark and light brown blood for the past 5 weeks. I was finally diagnosed with SCB today. My baby is fine, measuring properly and everything, and my hormones appear to be normal. My lower back and hip area is killing me, however...is anyone else having lower back pain? My Dr. told me that my muscles were stretching to prepare for the baby and that back pain is normal, but the pain is sometimes unbearable. Also, has anyone else only had brown spotting, not red bleeding, with a SCB? I'm wondering/concerned whether the bleeding will progress and later become heavy and bright red, which I of course am not looking forward to. And Jennifer, YES, the no s_x thing is absolutely unbearable - we've been abstinent for 5 weeks now and can't imagine how much longer we can take this, especially if the spotting doesn't stop.

I also have or had severe lower back pain. my doc says that my body recognizes that something is wrong so it is trying to fix it. when i start cramping i imagine that my body is fixing it and not trying to abort my baby. it help a little with the anxiety. i have not bled or spot at all but i have read in this site that lots of women have brown spotting. good luck to you and keep a positive att_tude.

Melanie the brown spotting indicates old blood.... It will range from brown to light pink through the healing process... The no s_x thing you can get past if you put your baby first.

Melanie to Jessica - October 8

Thanks Jessica, I realize that it is old blood. What I was wondering is if it means I will have a big bleeding episode soon, since it seems that a majority of the women with this condition bleed heavily and then taper off with the brown spotting, rather than start off with brown spotting.

Good to know that someone else is going through this back pain. It certainly doesn't feel normal, and I hope it goes away for the both of us soon. Good luck to you.

Has anyones doctor told them what causes a subchorionic hemorrhage? My daughter was diagnosed with a small sch at 7 wks after some spotting. The doctor told her they often resolve on their own. My daughter went on pelvic rest, the spotting stopped & then started up again 2 wks. later when she was 10 wks. She had another u/s done, which showed the babies heartbeat had stopped. She miscarriage the next day. Her doctor wasn't able to tell her if the sch was the cause of her miscarriage. I did read that sch's diagnosed before 9 wks are more of a risk for miscarriage. Thanks for any help....Diane

I wish I could give you a definitive answer....I woke up with a heavy bleed (no previous spotting) which tapered to spotting...It then stopped for about 4-5 days and started again....When it started again it was considered the healing process....

DIane, Dr.'s still do not know the cause of sch scb and they do resolve on there own....I would say that any pregnancy that ends that early could be for many reasons....It this case where the heart stopped and depending on where the bleed was either placental abruption took place or their were chromosomal abnormalities....The hardest this for OB's is to explain why a miscarriage happens....

This is my 3rd preg-(had miscariage with my 2nd preg at 8 wks w/SCH). was dx at 9wks 6 days my 1st u/s and have been scared for my baby ever since. The 2nd u/s at 12wks 8 days-SCH was still there and my baby was developing appropriately for its gestational age.I am now 14 wks and haven't had any v____al bleeding or cramping(thank GOD).My doc said I am still at risk for miscarriage.Been taking it easy.Praying every night!Has anyone delivered a preterm or had placenta abruptio or other complications later in preg since those are some of the risks later in preg?

I have what my Dr. calls a blood clot in my uterus. I started with twins and one didn't make it, but they aren't sure if that's related. I am 13 weeks and have been bleeding on and off for 3 weeks. I am on bedrest. They see the other baby on ultrasounds and it looks healthy. It moves a lot. I can't find information on this topic in any book, or much on the Internet. Lately the blood is getting darker almost black. The Dr. says this is good and means it's almost the end. However, we went for the nuchal translucency test last week and the tech noticed the clot on the ultrasound. I am grateful the baby seems fine but sick of bedrest and sick of not knowing when it will stop.

Here's a website with some information on subchorionic hemmorhages/clots. http://www.angelfire.com/home/joeynrobin/subchorionic.hematoma.faq.html...there doesn't seem to be much medical information about sch's on the web. Diane

I'm 7 1/2 weeks and was told by a friend, who is a radiologist, that I had a SCB on U/S. She said it was "tiny and has walled itself off", and also that it was not in a treatening position compared to the position of the fetus. She told me not to worry about it. I haven't had any bleeding or cramping. She did a favor to me by doing to U/S to detect a heartbeat, which was successful. Also, she said my pregnancy looked 5 weeks gestational age, and was confused because I said I was 7 weeks (LMP). She explained that radiologists go by gestatational age, and don't really concern themselves too much with LMP. She told her brother, who is my OB, that my scan was fine, but didn't mention the SCH. I don't see him for another two weeks. Should I be worried about this SCH? I'm 39; this is my 3rd pregnancy (first one was 18 years ago - I have a 17-year-old daughter; second one (about 15 years ago) ended in miscarriage at about 12 weeks - cause unknown). It was our 5th month of ttc, and I wasn't on any meds. But, because of my "advanced maternal age", I'm really scared and nervous of every little thing. Should I avoid exercise, s_x, etc.? Any advice would be most appreciated! Thx
