Hi Katie , Do not worrry , everything will be alright . Good news is your hemotoma has decreased . Most of them here have had the same and there were lot of positive outcomes , where they have carried the baby full term . Am in my 27 th week , my blood clot is still there . Doctor has put me on medium risk pregnancy . They are closely monitoring me every month . My prayers are with you . Thank you ,

Just wanted to share my story because many of the stories on this site have helped me over the last few months. I was diagnosed with a large hematoma at 5.5 weeks after ivf. I went in because I was spotting slightly. There were two embryos but there was lots of bleeding around them and they weren't attached to the endometrium very well. I was given next to no chance of carrying them. Over the next few weeks we had many ultrasounds and I bled on and off. Sometimes it was really gushing and othertimes just spotting. I lost one embryo shortly after the first ultrasound and the hematoma got to greater than 6cm. By 13 weeks the bleeding had pretty much stopped and an ultrasound showed that the hematoma was about half the size. By 16 weeks there was no sign of the hematoma. I'm now 18 weeks and everything seems normal. Good luck to everyone going through this. It's been one of the hardest experiences of my life and for many weeks we were sure it was going to end badly. So there is some hope even if things look really bad- doctors can only make their best guess and they're not always right.

I am fourteen weeks, six days pregnant. I was experiencing some extreme lower back pain and abdominal cramping, no bleeding. I was at work, I'm a nurse, and my supervisor feared I had injured myself while turning a heavy patient to administer a suppository. He called an ambulance and I was rushed to my hospital. After six hours in OB triage everything was ruled out: infection, premature labor (spontaneous abortion) , kidney stones, etc. I was put on the monitor and I was found to be contracting d/t uterine irritability. I was released with "abdominal pain-unknown, lower right quadrant" and was told to go to an outpatient ultrasound to check my ovaries for fibroids. Long stroy short, the sonographer left the room after viewing the baby (healthy, kicking, measuring right on target, heart 150 bpm) and my placenta. She came back and told me that the baby was perfectly healthy, but that the source of my pain was probably some bleeding I had behind my placenta. I asked her to elaborate, but she wouldn't. She sent in the doctor who explained I had a large "bleed" and it was "significant". He said that it may reabsorb or I could miscarry. Very nice. So, I went home and called my ob/gyn who happened to be on call at the hospital while I was therre. They awaited my final eval from the ultrasound and called me back to tell me that I had a subchorionic hematoma but that they were relatively normal. Then she went on to tell me I was now on pelvic rest, modified bed rest (what exactly is a modified bed rest?) and that I should probably consider disability at this point. They had the paperwork ready for when I needed to pick it up. There is a lot of conflicting information about whether the bedrest is necessary, but I really can't afford to stop working just yet. I want to bank at least two thousand additional dollars before I go on disability as I have not been at my job long enough to qualify for FMLA or sick days. I have had no bleeding whatsoever. Please keep me and my baby (90% chance girl) in your prayers.

Hi THere, I know how anxious you must feel, since I too was diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma (at 7 weeks to the day). At the time, I was also placed on modified bed rest, and told to just take it easy. I was terrified to even roll over in bed, for fear of loosing the baby!! My OB explained that if the clot is smaller than the baby, then its probably fine. Bed rest is recommended so clot / tear don't get bigger. Its apparently quite common, and also known as subchorionic bleed. I remained on bed rest until 19 weeks, and returned to work at 20 weeks (I'm a child welfare social worker), so returned to deskwork only. I'm now 35 weeks, and everything seems fine. The baby also seems fine!! If the doctor wants you resting, take the rest!! The stress or working, and knowing it could potentially hurt the baby are not worth it! Good luck to you!!

I am today, entering my 6th week after miscarrying my first pregnancy in Sept. Last week I began spotting and immediately was seen by my dr. After an ultrasound I was told there is "large blood clot threatening the sac." I was not given the diagnosis "subchorionic hematoma" but was told I had "sac separation" and am now on bed rest and increased doses of Prometrium (progesterone). I'm heading back to the dr on Thursday where we're hoping and praying to see a heartbeat. In case we don't, I'm scheduled for surgery the next day. I haven't bled since my first episode, thankfully, and my dr didn't say much -- positive or negative -- about my condition, only that the "blood clot" is my immune system's/body's way of attacking the ovum as if it were "foreign matter." Has anyone else experienced "sac separation" or am I not being told what I really have: subchorionic hematoma??? I'm told we won't know anything until next week when and if we see a heartbeat - being on bedrest, it's all I can do to NOT think about so many unknowns at this point. I cannot find anything on sac separation, however, all of your input on this site has been the best resource I've found yet. Many thanks to ALL of you!

it's real rea__suring to hear other women going through the same thing as I am. I felt a gush of blood when I was 13 weeks. I went in to see my dr and I had an US done. The baby looked fine but they did see a hematoma and told me it could go either way and they really couldn't do anything about it. I took off work for a couple of days and the spotting slowed and stopped. 6 days later (Xmas day!), I felt another gush and pa__sed a clot the size of a half dollar coin. I was devastated thinking that I lost the baby. We went into the ER and they saw that the baby was fine but my clot had gotten larger. I was ordered to bed rest for 3 weeks. The spotting got less and turned from red to brown to dark brown with little fibers of clots (??) here and there. I've never had any pain or cramps with the bleeds. I took it easy and thought that eventually the spotting will stop. I pa__sed a blood clot 2 nights ago, it was the thickness of my finger and about 3-4 inches long. I had some bleeding with that but not too much, maybe a few tablespoon and noticed some cramping, but no pain. I slept through the night without any more real bleeding. I talked to my dr the next day and she said if I wasn't bleeding heavily then it should be ok. I stayed home yesterday and only spotted a few times, just a few drops here and there and usually when I went to use the bathroom. I'm scheduled for a US tomorrow so I will ask more about the size of my clot. I do feel more hopeful after reading all the posts from other women who've experienced the same thing.

Shumen, Thank you for your prayers, they must have worked! I went for an u/s last Thursday and we have a heartbeat and my progesterone level went from 27 to 43, which I'm told is the sign of a normal pregnancy to date. I'm on moderate bedrest and have a weekly u/s appt. until I'm 12 weeks, then I'll be officially turned over to an ob/gyn. The hematoma seems to be "clearing up" according to the u/s. It remains quite large, however. It's comparable in size to the gestational sac if you can believe that! So, we'll continue to monitor and I can continue to worry myself to death! I'll be 8 weeks Friday so every week is a milestone and a miracle as far as I'm concerned! Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!!!!!

Hi Kristind, Am happy to hear that you heard the heart beat . My blood clot is still there but not gotten any bigger so thats reliveing and also baby is growing , she is measuring ahead of date . Am praying everyday to have healthy full term baby . Thank you ,

kristind - February 5

Shumen, Sounds like things are looking really up for you, what great news! Are you in any pain? Was back at the dr. last Thurs (and will be every Thurs through at least the 12th week) and my clot is definitely still there, too. I'm told that it is "healing" and will eventually be pushed away by the baby and the blood will then reabsorb into my blood stream. Friday night I had spotting again, brown in color, after crying all night, no sleep, I called my dr. The nurse said it's probably old blood, perhaps from the clot, which could be a good thing. So, again, back on bedrest and I'm only in my 8th week. I'm beginning to wonder if this pregnancy will even make it to the 12 week mark, let alone the 9th, 10th or 11th. I'm still nauseous 24/7, No appet_te and insomnia is now setting in, too. This has been such a roller coaster. I don't know what to do at this point. My positive att_tude is diminishing and reality is setting in. If you've come this far in your pregnancy, Shumen, I'm sure the remainder will be just fine. Hang in there! You're almost there!

Shumen - February 6

Hi Kristind , Do not worry , Everything will be fine . Brown spotting is definetely old blood . I have spotted some times dark red , pinkish , brown and black clots . As i told you my clot is still there and it is 2 X1 cm in size . Today doctor told me not to worry but until the baby is born healthy and full term , constant fear is still there . I understand you , but 12 week will be there very soon. Take care,

I was pregnant with my second child and on Thanksgiving Day I started bleeding really bad. I had no idea what was going on. I went to the hospital and they said I had a threatened miscarrage. They put me on bed rest and I was okay for a while. A couple of months later I took my son to get his shots and I started feeling real light headed and took of to the nurses station and a had started to bleed again. They said that they had never seen anything like this before. They kept me in hospital for a total of 24 hrs. I came home and one day went by and I woke up at about midnight and went to the restroom I got back on the chouch and I started feeling wierd again I stood up and felt a gush! I thought my water had broke and I was only 23weeks and 6 days. I got to the bathroom and it was all blood. My husband had to call for an ambulance cause I had pasted out and started going into convultions. The paramedics couldn't even get an IV in me cause I had lost so much blood. Still they say they know nothing about what was causing this to happen. Then a week after that I went into labor, I called the on call Dr. and waited for one hour and the Dr. never called me, so I called them back they said that they paged the wrong pager. I think that is B.S.. They told me to get to the hospital and we did. The Dr. did an exam on me when she should have just gave my meds to stop my labor! 30 seconds after she did the exam my water broke. I lost my son! Now I have found out that it was very common and that they could have gave me progestrone.
