Anyone Use Mirena IUD

I am considering using the mirena iud and I would love to find out peoples experiences with it. I particularly want to know the following: 1. How long did you bleed once it was inserted. 2. did you experience any prolonged pain having it in. 3. Were your periods regular, or did they become lighter/stop, and did you have bleeding inbetween cycles. Any experiences would be helpful. Thanks!

I had wanted it, but have decided against it b/c I found out that if you did concieve- which I guess is often, that it causes you to miscarry the embryo. Felt a little weird about the idea... My sister was on it , till she went to the hospital with alot of cramping and irregular bleeding and found out that she had a miscarrage. She hadnt been told that the iud will prevent 'pregnancy' by shedding eggs once they are already fertalized. She discontinued. Personally, I'd prefer to prevent fertilization in the first place, rather than eliminating it whenever it naturally happens. Guess it depends on how you feel.. It sure sounded convinient. Still deciding what to use for birthcontrol... 15% women stop usage b/c the cramping is too intense, and I guess the irregular bleeding is a pain in the b___t..

I just went to my first pp doc appt and am scheduled to have the mirena iud inserted in two weeks. I did alot of research prior to deciding to get this, and everything I found stated this is just as effective as having your tubes tied. My doc agreed as well and stated it is a wonderful choice. She stated I might have irregular bleeding/spotting for the first three months, but then after that my period should be very light, sometimes only spotting, and sometimes only for a couple of days. I am excited about using it, so hopefully it is a great as I have heard! A friend of mine has the regular iud and loves it, so we will see!

I just had my Mirena placed last week. Honestly, it has been a breeze. i was 7weeks PP when it was placed. I work in the medical field, and hr the two little letter DR. in front of my name, and can tell you that I highly recomend this. My OBGYN said if he were a female, it would be something he'd put himself and his 16 yr. old daughter on.. lol.. Yes, there are questions raised about concieveing in the tubes. You get what you ask for in my opionion of this method. You will not have a baby if the IUD is implanted and inplace. I am very agaist abortion, but I do not feel you are aborting a fetus if you miscarry on this percausion. It's not your fault, nor the devices fault, unfort. some things happen. I have had no cramping, and very very little spotting. In which I don't know if I'm spotting die to my dd or the mirena? But, I highly recomend this as a birth control method!

I absolutely love my mirena IUD. I've had it for about 6 months now. I'm very pro-choice and I never was a regular ovulator, and with the hormones in the mirena I'm not too concerned about conceiving. That being said, all birth control is a personal choice, blah blah blah. lol. To answer your questions: 1. I bled on and off for about 4 months. It was mostly just irritating, because it wasn't enough where i could really wear a tampon, but it was enough that I had to use SOMEthing. Never was enough to bother my husband though, lol. Now I still wear a panty-liner just in case. I have had some spotting on and off for the last few months, though very little and I suppose it could be me having a period. 2. It really didn't hurt at all. I was 7 weeks pp when I had it put it. Felt a little crampy, but not bad. Didn't hurt at all by the second day. 3. I haven't had a period yet. (See ques. #1, though!) I'm still b___stfeeding a lot, and I wasn't regular before DS was born, so I don't think I'm ovulating at all. I would DEFINITELY recommend this birth control to everyone. I can't imagine trying to take a pill at the same time every day with a small infant. Yikes! I plan on keeping my IUD until we decide if there will be kid #2, and then after that dh wants to get snipped. :)

I had it, it was fine for a few years (caused me to cramp really bad at the time I was supposed to menstrate but I didn't bleed) then I started getting uterine infections and had to have it removed. I won't be getting it again, my OB doctor acted like it was the greatest thing but my GP said he wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I had the mirena IUD in and loved it for the first year. Then I started getting infections and one month my period was 2 weeks late and when it did come it was very very painful, very heavy and I had a bunch of big clots. I truly believe that I had a miscarriage and had my IUD removed as soon as I stopped bleeding from that. Just thought that I would share. Good luck to all of you in choosing your method of birth control.

Hi emunah, there are a couple IUD strings on the pregnancy complications board. After reading them I personally decided to stay on the pill - I've never had any issues with it and there seemed to be a lot of women getting pregnant on the IUD - which can turn complicated. Anyway it may be worth reading. I have 2 friends who use Mirena with no issues.
