Okay - I know that I am being completely paranoid but I live in constant fear that I have HIV and I don't know why. I have been tested twice (once before I was married and again for my pre-natal tests 9 months after that). The way I worry that I caught this disease is completely crazy - such as touching objects at the supermarket, doorknobs or opening the mail! Crazy I know! You think I was shooting up drugs and having unprotected s_x with every man I see (which i am not!) My fear often goes beyond just HIV - I am also contantly washing and sanatizing things around the house or washing the baby - just in case. I am starting to avoid ppl and places just because I can stand the thought of "contamining" my baby. I have read that a few mothers have had the same anxity as me and I am currently waiting to be covered by insurance because I know I need some help with this irrational fears. Its just helpful to know that some other mothers are expereincing the same situation as me as I wait for help.

you cant get hiv like that. you need to share a needle or have s_x. or get a blood transfusion. that's it. no doorknobs, toilets, shopping carts. you sound like you may have OCD. i read recently that many women develop ocd after giving birth for unknown reasons. call your doctor when you get insurance so you can get some help. good luck.

hey--dont worry---i have a touch of OCD myself, but you have to not let it run your life! Ive learned to live with it, but when i had my first baby, i was just ridiculous with all the sanitizing i would do. I got cracked fingers from washing my hands so much. Not from fear of HIV, but just germs in general. HIV is super hard to transmit, ive done a lot of research on it so please dont worry about it. Its totally bloodbourne. It dosnt live long outside the body. As far as your OCD about taking the baby out to places, buy a big bottle of Purell for your car and little bottles for your purse. Whenever you touch something "questionable", purell your hands and whammo--no more germs! It really will make you feel better. Hope ive helped you some!

Sounds like there is some serious ocd going on. I am cautious about germs too but washing my hands throughout the day and sanitizing the house as well as teaching my children to keep clean usually calms my fears of germs. Now the HIV thing, well from what I've learned it is a bit harder to contract than that. Hope u get help soon. Good Luck.

Obsessive Complusive Disorder is what that sounds like. Its treatable, but you should get help as soon as possible because it only gets worse as your obsession begins to consume you. I'm pretty sure it stems from just a general anxiety about protecting your child 9and yourself). Regardless, you need to look into some form of therapy because soon you may find yourself overwashing the baby, being unable to leave the house and provide for the baby, or even use items nessasary to care for the baby. Sounds like ocd and/ or specific phobia with agoraphobia. Sorry, i'm a psych major and diagnose everybody with everything (even though i only took about 4 psych courses so far)
