I am 22 years old and pregnant with my third, I am considering a tubal ligation after this one because I can not take birth control pills (they make me moody, violent, sick, and fat...my doc took me off them) and the Mirena IUD I had before getting pregnant this time caused several uterine infections before I finally had it removed. A tubal seems like the only option...but I am only 22 and that is such a permanant thing. Not to mention not covered by my insurance. If you were my age and had 3 children would you do it? One doctor has already told me not to... I am just confused and I want to consider everything before deciding to give up my fertility.

My doctor has a saying..."Don't be 100% sure... be 110% sure." And it sounds like you aren't. I have heard of women getting clamps put on that can be removed later... I don't personally know much about it, but you could ask your doc. I would have been in the same predicament if I'd have had my kids young, because I can't take hormonal b/c, and there aren't many other reliable options that I am comfortable with. Fortunately I was older, so the decision was easier to make when I had my tubal! gl

What about condoms/spermicide/ pull out. They aren't 100% effective on their own, but I'd be really surprised if you for example used spermacide and pulled out and ended up pregnant. I wouldn't sacrifice my ability to ever have another child just so my partner could c_m inside...you never know what could happen in the future that might change your mind about having another child. I don't do well on bc pills and have no desire to be on any other modifying bc method (IUDs, shots, patches) so we just use condoms or spermacide + pullout.
