hi everybody, i gave birth to my daughter who was 9lb 13 ounces 13 days ago, labour all went fine, i was told that when the midwife checked my placenta it had ragged edges to say that some of the membranes/placenta were still inside me and that they would come out on their own.. Day 2 of being home i had a huge blood clot, rang the maternity ward was told it could b some of the placena not to worry so i didnt, bleeding turnt back to normal, then on day 8 bleeding stopped just had discharge then day 11 suddenly after alot of pelvic pain (i suffered with this from day dot of pregnancy) i went to the toilet befre bed and a huge blood clo came away with alot of blood just gushing away from me like a hose, only lasted a few mins but i was so terrified i woke hubby and got to the hospital the bleeding had stopped, they swabbed me all came back fine but gave me antibiotics and sent me home. Day 13 today new yrs eve and im not enjoying it, im still freaking out.. i have no blood and am scared of it all happening again, and hubby goes back away to work tommorrow :( i wont see him for 2 weeks they wont do a d and c, only as a last resort!! (nhs) Has this happened to anyone else?

hi, i am 20 days post delivery. i had a quick labour only 3 hours from waters breaking to him popping out, my son was born 27 dec 06 at 36.5 weeks and weighed in at 5lb 2oz and very healthy. i lost a clot 1/2 hour after the birth and the midwife said it was normal, they weren't sure if the afterbirth was complete but were not worried. i went home the following day with the baby and apart from the normal blood loss everything was fine. 2 weeks later i lost a small clot but the midwife said not to worry, then saturday night just gone i went to the loo and just as i stood up and pulled my pants up i thought i had wet myself (bladder control is not good when not preg) when i looked i found the pad flooded with blood this was a heavy duty maternity pad. i sat on the loo again and blood poored out. this freaked me a bit as this is my 3rd child and never had anything like it before. my dh rushed me back to the hospital and they put me on bed rest for the night, they did a swab and blood test the next day and i lost another clot after they did the swab. i was sent home with 2 strong antibiotics like you and they put me on bed rest for a week and light housework the week after. the blood tests came back normal as did the swab. they said it might be bits of the after birth that are being expelled naturally or it could be a very heavy period, either way they wont do a d&c and said if i am still bleeding at my 6 week check they to ask my gp for an ultra sound scan. you are not alone but try to take it easy and make the most of having your dh home, have you got anyone who can give you a hand after you dh goes back to work?

hi donna, since taking the antibiotics the hospital perscribed and being in bed rest the bleeding has almost stopped, it only gets slightly heavier if i do too much, i am seeing my gp hopfully next week. the antibiotics are causing some nasty side effects like painful joints and head aches which don't help when you have to get up at 2 and 4 to b___st feed.
