I have had 3 pregnancies and during all of them I have colored my hair. The OB/GYN says after the first trimester is best

I have been debating this also. I have been told so many different things by so many doctors, friends, hairdressers and family and I have decided it's not worth the chance. If you do decide to do it, make sure you are in a well ventilated room for your own sake. Hair coloring itself is toxic and I've been looking for an excuse to stop coloring my hair so I guess this is as good a time as any :0)

Wow, these are quite the opposite answers here. Yes you can dye your hair. They advise against it because it can turn out differently. You can get your nails done without anything happening. A miscarriage is a horrible thing, and people tend to blame it on the things they did. Has any doctor EVER said "you had a miscarriage because you dyed your hair"? Absolutely not, that's ridiculous. The only thing you shouldn't do is get a perm. These chemicals are much stronger (although there are still no known affects) but your hair could become a frizz ball. Quiana, get your hair done, it does not make you a bad mom and will not cause harm to your child. Just don't marinate your body in a tub of chemicals and you'll be fine :)

I colored my hair when I was about 4 or 5 weeks pregnant, however did not think I was pregnant. I had taken 5 pregnancy tests and they all came back neg. It wasn't till a month later I took another and it was positive. I have since had my first doc apt. and am not 14wks preg. they had to do a sono to be able to tell, they saw the baby kickng and moving well. I'm concerned though as I did color my hair in the first trimester. Has anyone else done this...should I be concerned??

for most of my pregnancy, it was considered high risk..before knowing i was prego, i had my hair highlighted and lowlighted...i also had an emergency surgery that put me on vicoden for a little over a week...my ob has a__sured me many times that coloring/bleaching my hair is totally fine..just keep it well ventilated..i've also visited the organization of teratology web site, which also confirms my ob's thoughts, and has calmed my occasional fears..and will answer questions of perms and relaxers as well.
i'm currenlty 34 weeks, still highlight my hair, have had an amniocentesis(gentic and chromosome testing) and many ultrasounds, all confirming that my very active baby girl is completely healthy and adorable!!!

You can have your hair colored as long as the color is not touching your scalp. The problem with coloring your hair is that on scalp color can soak into your skin, putting potentially harmful toxins into your body. I have been a hairstylist for five years, and this is what I always tell my clients. The biggest problem is that it doesn't always turn the right color. I highlighted my hair when I was 36 weeks pregnant and it turned orange because of my crazy hormones.

I am a cosmetologist and also a mother. The whole idea of not being able to color your hair when you are pregnant if not true. After doing extensive research I have found that the only problem you would have is the fumes. As long as you are not exposed to a large amount of the chemicals you will be just fine. The chemicals used in the color do not soak into your blood stream and hurt the baby. Naturally, you should atleast wait until your second triamester before being arounf the smell

You can color your hair.. It will not harm tha baby. I am a hair stylist. The only thing is sometimes since you have all the different hormones in you, the color can either a. Take to you hair like it normally would or b. It will be more resistant....

i'm 7 weeks pregnant (i think) and i went and got foil highlights in my hair last week. i heard that it's fine as long as you don't do an all over color or aren't around too strong of chemicals. so my stylist was very careful. in pregnancy don't you want to feel beautiful? i'm doing everything i can to look good because i sure as heck don't feel so great! :)

I am 7 weeks pregnant. I have a hair appt this week, to get foiled highlights. I've heard that it's dangerous to do this while pregnant, especially in the 1st trimester, Although I had a close friend who was prego dye her whole head while pregnant. I'm still kind of nervous. I wouldnt want to harm my future baby.
but my roots are TERRIBLE!
