I have always had a high resting heart rate and even though I don't feel dizzy or out of breath when I do my 30 min of cardio daily, but my heart rate reaches 168 -170 BPM. It goes above the recommended heart rate for a pregnant woman when I walk a light pace on the treadmill. What is so dangerous about increased heart rate when your pregnant?

The 140bpm recommendation was not based on any sound research (with humans. It is not a current recommendation for cardio with apparently healthy pregnant women. The new guidelines suggest pregnant women stay away from anaerobic activity, or at least limit the amount of time spent anaerobic. Many still suggest staying well hydrated and not getting too overheated though. If you are interested in more literature on the subject check out Dr. James Clapp III's book. He is one of the few exercise physiologists who has done research on actual pregnant women and not on pigs.
