I recently found out I am pregnant with my third child (the first was twins). I am a personal trainer and in great shape. Before i found out, I did a high intensity workout that had my heart rate above 170 for a good period of time. I obviously know that the recommendations are 140 -150 /bpm and to stay cool. Now I am afraid i harmed the fetus. Has anyone had this experience. I will stop working out so hard but feel terrible. Help! I don't see my doctor for another month.

I am a Sports Fitness trainer trying to conceive. Here are my thoughts. First off how far along are you? If you just found out and you are in the early stages, and that it was only one workout, I would think that you would be completely fine. Look at how some women drink and smoke for weeks before they know they are pregnant. Because you have already have 2 children, and are in great shape, I would not worry, and do not feel terrible. I have a friend who trained for her first half marathon and was pregnant- she had no clue until 2 weeks after the race. She has 2 healthy children now. As you already know by experience, just work at a lower level now. I am sending you positive vibes and a huge congratulations!!!!!
Take care

Check with your doctor, but when I asked mine, he said not to worry about elevated heart rate. He cautioned not to work out to point of exhaustion and take care in the heat, but otherwise, I've been given the green light. I'm now 7 months preg and still work out alot. I feel great and sonograms/tests show that the baby is fine and growing normally.
