I like sports but there are months that I foprget for the gym. For the last year and a half I have been to the gym only 15-20 times at the most. Before that for about 2 years I was in the gym almost every day for atleast 1 hour. I haven`t changed my weight at all. I am pretty active person , I move alot, walk, some swimming some times, always doing something but this is not a sport. I have never tried Yoga. I am in my first trimester and in the vening is my only free time after work and wekendsI feel very lazy after whole day at work to exercise but I want to make sure that my body won`t change a lot after pregnancy. Do you think I can start exersising now and what would be the best in 1-2 trimester. Thank you

hey gb_mom for what my doc.s have said is that your not suppose to start any form of exercise after your pregnant that you weren't already doing prior to the pregnancy. So if you weren't exercising regularly before you shouldn't start now. That's what my nurse pract_tioner said when I was in b/c I was ttc and just getting a physical to make sure all was well. That's also what my GP said when I got pregnant in Feb (I m/c that one), and that is what my OB's nurse told me a few weeks ago when I was in for this new pregnancy so....

hi gb_mom, In my first trimester i didn't do any exercise. Although 3 months prior to getting pregnant I exercised on elliptical trainer atleast 5 days a week. I stopped exercise due to time restrains and after 3 months I became pregnant. I couldn't exercise in my first trimester b'coz I was always tired and also I had to work some extra hours everday as we were going thro some staffing shortage at work. I gained aroung 20pounds in my first trimester but then I realized I should start exercise to stay fit. i started with 15-20 minutes walk and gradually took it upto 1 hr walk after work. i also walk a lot during my working hrs. Then I gradually started aquatic fitness cla__ses. I was surprised that my energy levels increased a lot. Second trimester seemed to float by and I never felt tired. stopped putting any extra weight and felt so good. Now I am in my 34th week and don't walk as much but still apart from walking at work I try to do half hour walk everyday and also go twice for aquatic fitnees cla__ses. Also in my second trimester I was doing a little bit of elliptical trainer 5-10 minutes everday. Although you feel walking is not a sport but you will be surprised how much benefical it is in pregnancy. It helped me a lot. My doctor had suggested me that walk and swim is the best exercise during pregnancy

gb_mom I guess I should have mentioned that the doc's did say that walking was okay. So if you feel like you need to be doing something walking may be a good option. They just don't want you doing anything that gets your heart rate way up. Anyways like sandee said walking can be helpful.

my dr. told me that i should start light exercises such as light water aerobics or light aerobics. i was in the gym 3-5 times a week and stopped about 3 months before i got pregnant cuz my dr. thought it might be preventing me from getting pregnant. i am not 4 months and still have not started exercising. i work full time and when i get home all i wanna do is relax. even though i have a sit down job, i still feel exhausted. i know i need to start doing something. so far i've gained 7 pounds in four months.
