All of the books say you HAVE TO DO kegels. I'm only 7 weeks and this is my first. Is it really that important to do kegels?

Well they can't hurt. I think they are more for becoming aware of how to use that area during labor and for recovery. They take no effort to do, you can do it anytime. I would do it. With my first I did do kegels 1-2 times a day, if I remembered and I feel I did recover pretty quick down there. I'm pregnant with my second now (16 weeks) and plan on starting my kegel routine soon again.

How have you never heard of kegels Hazel???? Don't you read the books, or talk to someone who has had kids? Kegel muscles are the muscles that surround the outer area of the v____a. They are the ones responsible for holding your urine in when you really gotta pee, and for contracting your v____al walls. While peeing the next time, stop your stream, those are it. It's a good idea to practice kegels all day when you remember. (You don't have to be peeing to do it.) Flex hold and release.
