I'm 4wk 5d, and wanted to know what kind of exercises are okay to do during the first trimester? I've looked online but had no luck. I'm in pretty decent shape right now, and would like to try and stay fit throughout my pregnancy.

Hi, well it depends on what your fitness level was like before. I would say invest ina heart rate monitor ad keep you BPM below 140. You can still weight train and keep fit. I ordered some great books online from amazon, "fit to deliver" looks good..

I just went to the gym today and talked to my personal trainer who has had 2 kids. She told me to step it up! She had me lifting weights, doing cardio, even above 155. She said as long as I'm not becomming dizzy or light headed I'm fine and the baby is fine. and she said, obvioulsy don't try to get to that point, at that time you are already loosing oxygen to the brain and so is the baby. Which isn't good. She did tell me however, that now I'm in my second tri to not do any activities on my back, such as the bench press or sit ups. But to continue working those muscles just on different machines. She also told me to use the ball for ab workouts and the slings to do an ab workout. Since you are still in your first tri you can do sit ups. I was doing them up until a week or so ago when I got to my fourth month. She did say that it was important to make sure you aren't over using your back muscles since there is already a lot of strain on them...well not yet for you but some day!! I too want to stay fit durring this pregnancy, I've only heard it helps with labor and delivery but also getting your body back into shape afterwards! Good luck and good for you for wanting to stay fit!
