Is it safe to do abdominal exercises, like sit ups, when pregnant?

You are not supposed to do any exercises which causes you to lie in the prone position (flat on back) after your first trimester. It constricts blood flow. However, if you have a stability ball, move your floor exercises to the ball. Make sure the ball is further up on the back (middle of the back to shoulders) and contract the b___t to keep the hips lifted. You can do chest exerices on the ball as well. Hope this helps.

I was told not to do floor adominal exercies after four months because of the pressure it puts on the main artery that supplies the baby (its located along your right side) - this also is why you are not to sleep on your back after four months. My pregnancy guide explains to do abominal exercises sitting up on a chair - bending over and sideways - keeps you off your back...good luck.

try not to lie on your back, but otherwise it is good to continue to strengthen your ab muscles.

I am 21 weeks pregnant and asked my doctor at my last visit if I could continue with my ab workout and he said yes.
