Sit ups & crunches are ok until your uterus pops out (from your pelvic bone). When your pregnant your stomach muscles separate to make room for your expanding uterus. If you do sit ups or crunches once your uterus pops out it puts ALOT of strain on your already strained muscles & can lead to permanent damage (muscles may not fuse back together properly after the birth). If you want to exercise your stomach muscles during pregnancy you still can but NOT on your back. One of the ones my physiotherapist told me was the cat stretch - on your hands & knees you brace your stomach muscles drawing them upward toward your spine, while stretching your back slightly upwards, than release relaxing back down again. You can do reps if you like. Also tensening & bracing your stomach muscles during the day can help (I used to do this one non stop while doing dishes). Hope this helps

Yep, I agree with E586467. Ab work is fine until your uterus can't stay behind your pelvic wall any more - usually around 12 weeks.
